Georgia Watch Leading Advocacy Initiatives
Consumer Advocacy Week
Deputy Director Natasha Taylor attended several virtual events hosted by the Consumer Federation of America for Consumer Advocacy Week (April 15-19). She met with the offices of Sen. Reverend Raphael Warnock, Sen. Jon Ossoff, and Rep. Nikema Williams, along with partner organizations, to urge Congress to curb abusive overdraft and credit card late fees and support the Federal Trade Commission CARS rule to protect consumers and service members when purchasing a car.
Georgia Watch Hosts Civic Advocacy Training with the Refugee Women's Network
Georgia Watch partnered with Refugee Women's Network and EMBRACE Refugee Birth to co-host a civic advocacy training for refugee and immigrant residents in Clarkston, GA. Through education and empowerment, this training fostered active engagement and amplified voices for positive change in their communities.
Georgia Watch Hosts a Policy Workshop at Georgia State University
Georgia Watch hosted a policy workshop for Georgia State University (GSU) Public Health students this month. Workshop participants were guided through the state legislative process and the process of developing a policy pitch on key public health issues facing our state. The workshop was led by three GSU students in the program with support from the School of Public Health and the GSU College of Law- Center for Law, Health & Society. Executive Director Delivers Keynote at Annual National Consumer Law Conference
On April 12, Executive Director Liz Coyle gave a keynote speech at the 
Consumer Law Spring Training 2024 hosted by the National Consumer Law Center and the National Association of Consumer Advocates in Atlanta, GA. Over 325 consumer attorneys and advocates attended the conference to grow their consumer law expertise. Coyle highlighted the importance of partnerships among civil justice attorneys, policy advocates like Georgia Watch and community organizations to create a new system for achieving economic justice for all.
