Events

Celebrating Mothers and Fathers with CBN

We are excited to share the celebrations that took place at our Older Adult Centers for Mother's and Father's Day this year! CBN members enjoyed music, dancing, delicious cake, an exciting raffle, and more to celebrate. We simply couldn't let these special days pass by without expressing our heartfelt appreciation for the incredible moms, dads, and grandparents who brighten our lives each and every day at our centers. Thank you for being a part of our community!

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, staff from our our Community Elder Mistreatment and Abuse Prevention Program (CEMAPP) partnered with the NYPD 23rd Precinct and Safe Horizons to educate members on the harsh realities of elder abuse and the steps we should take to prevent it. Detective Miguel Rivera, Community Affairs Officer at the 23rd Precinct and Jacqueline Reyes, Safe Horizon Liaison spent the morning at our Covello Older Adult Center and walked our members through common scams and provided safety tips. The room was packed, and our older adults left armed with the knowledge they need to keep themselves safe.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing elder abuse, know that we are here to help. For more information on CEMAPP, please click here.

Covello Celebrates Puerto Rican Heritage Day

Covello Older Adult Center recently hosted an exciting celebration to commemorate Puerto Rican Heritage Day! Members enjoyed Puerto Rican music, snacks, and themed decorations, then danced and sang throughout the two hour party, displaying flags from their culture. It was a total blast and a fantastic way to honor their roots!

CBN Highlights

Classes in Action at our Older Adult Centers

Classes are in full swing at our Older Adult Centers! Our members have been busy with a variety of engaging activities, from Belly Dancing to Jewelry Making, as well as health & wellness enriching events - see below for some fun highlights from the past few months.

Local Excursion, New York Style

Carter Burden Luncheon Club members recently took a fun excursion on the Staten Island Ferry! They traveled there with our CBN bus that is provided by NYC Aging, which takes members on various outings to enjoy cultural activities as well as grocery shopping trips to Walmart and other stores.

Meet the Faces of Covello Members

We are delighted to share with you the faces of some members at Covello, photographed by Alec Rill, who recently visited our Covello Older Adult Center to volunteer his talents and take headshots of our older adult members. From all of us at CBN, thank you for taking such wonderful photos of our members!

Member Spotlight: Shirley

Shirley has been living in East Harlem for over 40 years, since she moved with her husband in 1975. She was married to her husband for 35 years, and they had many adventures together before he passed away 11 years ago. Shirley and her husband loved to travel and go on cruises, and she carries on the tradition with her daughter and stepchildren.

After retiring from working at the Postal Service for 26 years, a friend invited Shirley to come to the Covello Older Adult Center. During that first lunch with her friend at the center, Shirley was “hooked,” and has been coming regularly for 10 years. Shirley regularly attends programming all throughout Covello, and enjoys going to events, celebrations, and classes.

Social Service Unit: Walk-Ins Welcome

CBN offers confidential assistance to help older adults address concerns.

We accept both walk-ins and appointments at our Upper East Side location/Main Office at 415 East 73rd Street! Walk- ins are available Monday-Friday 10am-4pm, or please call 212-879-7400 for an appointment or more information about social services at all CBN locations.
