Mark Haworth of Hālau Wa'a Episcopal Honouliuli, received a call from their friend and fellow Punahou alumnus, Lisa Smith Salkever, she had no idea that that conversation would mark the beginning of a most remarkable journey. In the News: ACCW Featured in the Star-Advertiser
Pat Gee, a reporter for the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, recently accompanied the volunteers of the Diocesan Maui Ministry, A Cup of Cold Water (ACCW), on one of their runs. The article, which was released on April 15, sheds light on the growing need for their mobile services which has been hampered by a drop in volunteers and resource providers, triggered by both COVID and the Maui wildfires. Being Different: Camp Mokulē'ia's Annual Youth Retreat

|  | What a blast the youth had at the 2024 Diocesan Youth Retreat hosted at Camp Mokulēʻia! With a mix of youth from 4 islands (Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, and Maui) and 11 churches and organizations (Episcopal, United Methodist, Salvation Army, and a non-denominational church), the youth dove into making new friends as soon as they arrived. Our 9th and 10th grade Leaders in Training (LIT) practiced their facilitating skills by leading name games, get-to-know you games and team builders. Along with paddling the multi-person paddle boards, fishing, zip lining, laughing, playing, and endless smiles, the youth learned how God calls us to "Be Different: Believe differently, Act/React differently, Love differently, Return/Go different". MAY 1 DEADLINE FOR 2024 CARBON REDUCTION ASSISTANCE GRANTS (CRAG)! The deadline for the Diocese's grants for Carbon Reduction Assistance is coming up on Wednesday, May 1. Projects that are likely to be supported: alternative energy source projects (solar, carbon offsets), energy audits, energy efficient appliances and light bulb retrofits, safe building tear down and removal. Ali'i Sunday Commemorating Prince Albert - Our morning services commemorates the only son of Kamehameha IV and Queen Emma, who, during his short life, was adored by the Native Hawaiian public.
Choral Evensong at 5:30 PM - The Cathedral will be holding a very special Choral Evensong celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Ordination of Women in the Episcopal Church! The night will be centered around honoring Dame Julien of Norwich, a Mystic and Theologian of the 15th Century. Dame Julien was a great symbol of peace and love, and shared her message in the written book, "Revelations of Divine Love."

Pipes Aweigh!
Did you know that our Canon to the Bishop, Alexander "Sandy" Graham, plays a mean bagpipe? The proof is in the picture, and Canon Sandy (at far left) was recently invited to play at the Arizona Memorial along with fellow pipers from the Celtic Kula Pipe Band. The service was in honor of the last surviving crew member of the USS Arizona.

It would have been enough for the Rev Jennifer Latham to have just finished the Boston Marathon, but noooo, she went ahead and finished 14th out of 934 in her age group (women 55-59)! The annual event took place on April 15, 2024, with over 30K participants. (From the Holy Nativity online E-news)

The Diocese has arranged for an online introduction and training of the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem's (AFEDJ) FREE video-based study program called Bearing Witness, that "shares the stories of people living in Palestine and Israel and the remarkable ministries of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem that bring hope and healing in this volatile part of the world." Clergy and church education/formation leaders are urged to attend this Zoom gathering scheduled for Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at 3:00 PM (HST).
