Applying for Graduation & Ceremonies/

Important Deadlines

  • The last day for degree candidates to apply for graduation via SOLAR is 5/9/25.
  • The last day for 2025 degree candidates to apply for graduation and be included in the commencement publication is 4/16/25.
  • Please note that applications submitted after 4/16/25 will not appear in the digital commencement publication.

  • Students must officially apply for graduation in order to be awarded their degree and receive their diploma. You may apply to graduate using the link on SOLAR
  • While you’re applying for graduation on SOLAR the next step in the process will be doing the ceremony registration form.
  • In this part you will indicate whether you will be attending the University-wide commencement ceremony, department-level ceremony, both or neither.
  • Students can participate in the spring ceremony if they have graduated in the winter or fall before the ceremony or anticipate graduating in the summer or fall after a spring ceremony. This will ensure students will not have to travel back after their graduation to participate in commencement.
  • If you wish to change your ceremony choices, use the ceremony change form on SOLAR.
  • Please note that walking in the commencement ceremony does not equate to receiving your degree. The degree awarding process takes place 2-3 weeks after the commencement ceremony at which time your record is reviewed for completion of all degree requirements.

Tickets to the College of Business Ceremony

This year the University is requiring that the College of Business Convocation Ceremony be a ticketed event as we anticipate a larger turnout than usual. To help manage attendance, each graduating student who registers for the ceremony will receive 3 guest tickets. Graduating students do not require a ticket, however you must be dressed in academic regalia (cap and gown).

There is no charge for tickets.

For the College of Business ceremony, graduates who have registered for the CoB ceremony will receive an email in early May with directions on how to download their tickets. At that time, graduates will have the option to join a waitlist for 1 additional ticket

If you have a need for more than 4 tickets, please complete this form. If there are extra tickets after the waitlist tickets are claimed, we may be accommodate these requests. We are not guaranteeing that we will have extra tickets.

Tickets are transferrable, meaning after you receive your tickets, if you decide you do not need them all, you can give them to another graduate.

Please note: All guests must have a ticket to enter the Stony Brook Arena. There will be no stand-by line for entry. Guests without tickets will be directed to Frey Hall, where the ceremony will be livestreamed in designated lecture halls.
