We are delighted to add Mr. Harris to the team. We encourage you to join us in congratulating the clerk on his new role.

Deputy Greg Oakes Announces Retirement

Deputy Greg Oakes, who has served the Long Grove area, announced his retirement after a 29-year career with the Lake County Sheriff's Office. Greg's visits to the village hall always put a smile on our faces.

We are grateful for his many years of service to residents and business owners, and wish him well in the next chapters of his life.

Preparing for Ruth Barn Move

The first phase of preparation for the Village Hall expansion project was completed in mid-April. Crew members from Carmichael Construction poured concrete piers that are designed to stabilize and evenly support the weight load of the Ruth Barn.

Persistent spring rainfall (and some snow) delayed the project slightly; however, the team persevered, and that phase is now complete. Drying time can take up to 21 days before the concrete is fully cured. Preparations are underway for the actual moving of the barn, which will be featured on social media and our YouTube channel.

My Grown-Up Christmas Wish – That’s A Wrap

Monday March 25th was a rainy day, but the lights of Hollywood were brightly lit, as production of My Grown-Up Christmas Wish, a movie starring Mario Lopez, his wife Courtney, and son Dominic began filming in the village.

The presence of movie crew members created an ongoing buzz, with the entire production taking place locally. Many downtown merchants and village residents were extras in the movie, adding to the excitement. Fans and visitors to the area were able to experience some of the street scenes being filmed, and the Lopez family shopped and dined locally. The local economy saw a spike with all the activity associated with this production.

Despite a very rainy (and sometimes snowy) weather pattern, the production team managed to balance indoor scenes with outdoor filming on clear days. A “Christmas festival” was staged at Brother’s Field on April 6th, and included many scenes being filmed from mid-afternoon through the evening hours. Mario, or Brian (his character name) is the Mayor of Long Grove in this screenplay. Several scenes were staged and filmed at Village Hall on Wednesday, April 10th.

The production (which concluded April 12th) is part of a series of family friendly holiday movies produced by Great American Family, a Fort Worth Texas based company that features family-friendly series, original holiday movies, and seasonal romantic comedies.

We will now await the finished product which is scheduled to premiere around Thanksgiving.

Historical Society Turns 50

Village President Bill Jacob presented members of the Long Grove Historical Society with a resolution recognizing the society's 50th anniversary. Formed in 1974, the LGHS accepted a gift of the 1859 Drexler Tavern, moved the building, and transformed it to our present Village Hall in 1977. The village is grateful for those who have donated many hours to preserve historical significance of our community.

Fiscal 2024-25 Village Budget Approved

The Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget of $10.7 million was approved at the April 25th Village Board meeting. This budget covers the period of May 1, 2024 through April 30, 2025. Provisions have been added including a major capital expenditure for the construction of the Village Hall expansion, and the Ruth Barn move. Additional funds are earmarked in conjunction with a federal grant (expected in summer 2025) to pay for the Lake Michigan water supply infrastructure project. Funding to complete the next phase of roadway and drainage improvement projects are also incorporated in this year’s budget. A copy of the budget can be viewed at our website.

Distracted Driving –

Look Up and Save Lives

Throughout April, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Illinois State Police were out in force for Distracted Driving Month.

Distracted driving has reached epidemic proportions in America.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, 32,657 people died in car accidents involving distracted drivers in the 10 years between 2012 and 2021.

Advances in technology have added texting, GPS viewing, video calls, and social media posting to the already dangerous list of electronic distractions. Applying makeup, eating, drinking, and adjusting the sound system round out a list with lethal consequences.

Vehicles are equipped with a driver’s seat, which should be used for that function only. We are grateful to our state highway staff and law enforcement partners for their dedication to traffic safety enforcement.
