Spring Clean-up Complete! THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who participated in cleaning up the church grounds. It is looking much better and it is due to your hard work!

Special thanks to Gary Sylvester for leading the Outdoor Clean-Up crew on both Saturdays, one in the rain. Faced with a record number of downed branches, Gary tirelessly worked to improve our grounds while keeping spirits high with cheerful quips.

Second Church Storytellers

for Sunday, April 28

We will begin about 15 minutes into coffee hour. Participation by storytellers and story listeners is always welcome. For those who would like to share a story, please tell a story about a time when you were a shepherd for others or were shepherded by others.

Unless you were a farmer, we will presume this is metaphoric ;-)

2ND ANNUAL ST. BART’S DAY OF SERVICE

Saturday, May 4, 2024

We welcome all parishioners to participate in our 2nd Annual St. Bart’s Day of Service! This is a collaborative way of expanding our outreach and generating interest and momentum for serving our communities via local organizations.

All you have to do is choose which one of the 4 organizations you’d like to volunteer with for the day and sign up to attend - sign-up sheets are in the narthex. If transportation is a challenge, we can help organize carpools since a whole group of St. Bart’s folks will be volunteering together at each location. This year’s Day of Service is set for Saturday, May 4th. The times for volunteering vary based on location - see details on each sign-up sheet. At 1:00 pm, all participants are invited to come back to St. Bart’s for a cookout and casual fellowship to share about their volunteer experience.

Leading up to the Day of Service, a representative from each organization will come to separate Sunday services in April to share with the parish more about what their group is and does and what volunteering will look like. We hope that information will help you decide which organization to volunteer with on the Day of Service.

Organizations:

Growing to Give

Partners for World Health

Greater Portland Family Promise

Maine Needs

This event is brought to you by a joint effort of the Outreach Committee, Fellowship Committee, and Youth Education Committee. If you have questions, please contact Catherine Richards (cmrolney@comcast.net), Peter Sillin (sillin@gmail.com), or Pal Covie (palcovie@gmail.com).

New Member Sunday - May 19

Are you considering becoming a member of St. Bart's? Hooray! Rev. Amanda will be welcoming new members during the Sunday morning service on May 19. Those who would like to participate and be formally welcomed as members of the congregation should email Amanda or Anne Berg and Susie Soule from the Membership Committee.

A reminder that membership is not a requirement to participate in the ministries of St. Bart's. Membership status, though, signifies a commitment to the vitality and sustainability of our ministries through thoughtful engagement, participation in decision-making, and contributions of time, talents, and treasure.

Questions can also be directed to Amanda, Anne, or Susie.

The full-length documentary, "The Philadelphia 11," is coming to the Nickelodeon Theater in Portland's Old Port on Tuesday, 14 May at 7 p.m. Many of you know one of these 11 pioneers: Merrill Bittner, who with her spouse, Noppa, lives in Newry; they're active at St. Barnabas in Rumford. After the film Merrill will be on a panel, along with Portia Hirschman (retired priest from Maryland who is active at St. Mary's in Falmouth), Nancy Moore (sponsored for ordination in Maine and rector at Christ Church in Norway), Vicki Smith (sponsored for ordination in Maine and has served in several other dioceses, currently rector at St. Martin's in Palmyra), and Sukie Curtis (retired and active at St. Bartholomew's in Yarmouth).
