Dear Residents –

I hope you all enjoyed your week. I know it was another busy one for me, starting with the Earth Day Celebration at St. Thomas Aquinas College last Saturday. Congratulations to President Ken Daly, Professor Angela McDonnell and all of the students who worked hard to make this event a huge success. The campus was filled with vendors, local environmental organizations, food, music and so much more. It was a great opportunity to learn about sustainability, while at the same time, enjoying time with friends.

On Sunday, I stopped by the grand opening of the new exhibition at the Orangetown Historical Museum, entitled Getting There: Rivers, Roads & Rails Orangetown. Exhibition hours are Tuesdays & Fridays from 10 am to 2 pm and Sundays from 1 pm to 4 pm. It will be running through November, so be sure to stop in and check it out. It is definitely worth the trip.

Even though it had been a busy weekend, I had an important event to attend, the Kevin Curran Benefit, before heading home on Sunday. It was important for me to show my support for Kevin, an Orangetown resident who is battling ALS, and his family. It was standing room only, with an overflow outside, as so many people wanted to show their support for Kevin and his family. This proved to me, once again, what a great community we live in.

On Tuesday evening, the South Orangetown School District held a "NYS Champions Parade" for two-time NYS Gymnastics Champion Carly Sardo and the Tappan Zee Boys Basketball Team. It was a lot of fun marching, with firetrucks, police cars, and ambulances flanking the route, to Town Hall, where we celebrated their accomplishments during the regularly scheduled town board meeting.

The Town will again be hosting the Hunger’s 5K Heroes walk/run on May 13, 2023. The event starts at 10 am at Depot Square in Sparkill and is a run/walk/stroll out and back on the trail. Net proceeds will go to local food pantries to help feed those in our community that need help during what is, for many, a very stressful financial time. If you can, please show your support by participating, sponsoring or donating.

Unfortunately, the weatherman has promised a great deal of rain this weekend. Although it is not good for outdoor activities, it is very much needed to alleviate the dry conditions. So, please stay dry and have some indoor fun!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny
