Glenn Ward, having successfully completed his two-year term, will step down as Habitat for Humanity of Denton County Board President, effective July 1.
Ward ceremoniously passed the torch to new Board President Brian Strohl at the Habitat Board Retreat on June 24. Strohl currently serves on Habitat's Board of Directors as President-Elect.
Ward's leadership from June 2021 through June 2023 brought positive strategic change to Habitat for Humanity of Denton County and initiated momentous changes within the organization. The nonprofit ministry is in a strong strategic position to make a powerful impact on their mission to build quality, affordable homes in Denton County.
Habitat for Humanity of Denton County would like to express deep gratitude to its Board of Directors and to the generous leadership of outgoing Board President Glenn Ward.

Bonnie Manuel paid off her Habitat home!
|
Congratulations to Bonnie Manuel, our 49th homeowner, for paying off her Habitat home! As many of you remember, the Manuel family built their home alongside numerous volunteers at 401 Ruth Street in Denton in 2003. The home was built as part of Habitat's Homeownership program and was dedicated to them in December of that year, meaning this hardworking family paid off their mortgage in just 20 years!
We are continually amazed by and honored to work with families like this one. This family has accomplished something truly incredible, thanks to YOUR support!

Because of you, the "Bootstrap Bill" was signed by the Governor!
|
On Friday, June 9, because of the phone calls and emails of our most loyal Habitat supporters, the Governor signed HB 1472, which we've called the "Bootstrap Bill," into law. This is the bill that raises the area median income of the Texas Boostrap Loan Fund from 60% to 80%, increasing the number of people eligible to participate. It is effective September 1st.
Thank you so much for your support by contacting your local representatives these last few months. You are helping to make real change and spread awareness of the fact that too many families in Texas are paying too high a price to cover the cost of home.

As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.
