ASL Students Visit

FVSD Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program

Thursday, April 20th, roughly 40 students taking American Sign Language (ASL) at Huntington Beach High School (HBHS), along with their adult supervisors, came to work with students in our Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) program at Cox. As part of their ASL 3 class and HBHS, the students had to create and implement a lesson and activities for our elementary students. Our DHH program appreciates the partnership with the high school ASL classes. It is a win for our students who are deaf and hard of hearing, and its a win for these high school students who see the value of their efforts to learn ASL.

Talbert Music

Visited Gisler & Newland

Spring has sprung for our middle school music students as they visit their feeder schools! Not only do choir and band perform, but they also talk about the transition to middle school, how great it is, and ways to get involved and build connections. Thank you, T-birds!

Fentanyl Awareness

May 9, 2023

In recognition of National Fentanyl Awareness Day on May 9, OCDE is teaming up with the Orange County Health Care Agency to host a pair of no-cost workshops that will cover the dangers of fentanyl and counterfeit pills and share prevention resources.

The sessions — one will be held at 4 p.m., followed by another at 6 p.m. — will be held in partnership with the HCA’s Mental Health and Recovery Services at OCDE’s Conference Center, located in Building D at 200 Kalmus Drive in Costa Mesa. The HCA also plans to distribute kits containing Narcan, an emergency life-saving medication that can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid poisoning, to trained participants.

To register for either session on May 9, visit https://ocde.k12oms.org/1260-233279.
