Silver Linings for Students

Community involvement can improve test scores.



Even after the storm clouds of Hurricane Ian, I saw a silver lining of volunteerism outlining our community. As individuals were still battling insurance claims and waiting for needed home improvement supplies to be available, they willingly stepped up to give back to others.


This same synergistic approach can be used to ensure students do not live under the perpetual gray cloud of poor literacy skills.

New Commitment


Angie Matthiessen, Executive Director is pictured here with Melissa Nelson, President & CEO United Way of Florida.

 

Angie was honored to be asked to be on the United Way of Florida Board of Governors and attended her first board meeting. She said, "I'm looking forward to engaging with local communities as well as on a statewide level."


United Way of Florida represents Florida's 28 local United Ways serving 67 counties in our state.
