CELEBRATING OUR INCREDIBLE TEACHERS

Recognizing the extraordinary impact that teachers have on PESA’s mission

As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, PESA would like to take a moment to recognize the teachers who work tirelessly to support and guide the youth. As an organization that works so closely with the community, PESA appreciates the vital role teachers play in shaping our society’s future, and their impact on the lives of their students.

These dedicated teachers are the driving force behind a successful classroom. They inspire, motivate and challenge students to reach their full potential, while also creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. When asked about the impact teachers have made at PESA, Executive Director Seymour Amster said, "From its inception, PESA knew that in order to be successful we would need to have a partnership with teachers. We always drive to get their input and make sure they know we appreciate what they do for our youth.”

Jesus Gonzalez, Assistant Director of Youth Services shares, “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Ana L. Guevara,” a Social Studies and Law and Social Justice Teacher Lead at Fremont High School, “for her outstanding contribution to the academic and personal growth of her students.” Guevara’s teaching style not only focuses on academic excellence but also prepares students for their future. “Her passion for education and dedication to her students is truly inspiring.” Jesus was initially introduced to Ms. Guevara via email when she needed support on a project during the fall semester. This project involved reviewing the students' work, and supporting them with writing, research, and presentations. Ms. Guevara continues to collaborate with PESA and even helped coordinate a law school tour and Teen Court session participation for Fremont’s students.

Amster also added that he wanted to thank a special educator he met during his tenure at PESA, “We will always be influenced and will never forget Barbara Torres, our first Director of Government Relations, who was an educator and cared so much about the special education students and parents she was involved with. She taught us what it meant to care.”

We must also recognize the incredible resilience and adaptability that teachers have demonstrated during the last few years. They have navigated through unprecedented challenges, such as virtual learning, and adapting to constantly changing protocols. Through it all, they have remained steadfast in their commitment to their students and profession.

Thank you to teachers everywhere for your unwavering dedication and commitment to our youth. Your hard work and passion does not go unnoticed, and PESA is grateful for everything you do.
