There will be training for all Children's Ministry volunteers on Saturday, September 9 at 10am in the CE room or Monday, September 11 at 7pm on Zoom (choose whichever works best for you). More details will follow on the trainings, but please mark your calendars now.

RISING 6TH GRADERS ICE CREAM SOCIAL

All rising 6th graders and their caregivers are invited to an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, September 6 from 7-8:15pm in the Sanctuary. This is an opportunity for leaders to begin getting to know the new youth and for Pastor Brie to share an overview of youth ministry. Additionally, the Social offers a time to get to know Pastor Brie and other volunteer leaders as well as for you to share questions or concerns you may have.

PRAYING FOR MISSIONARIES

Do you KNOW our church's missionaries? Do you PRAY for our church's global workers? They are part of our church family, part of US!

Some serve in the U.S. but many live in other countries. Some work with English-speakers while others need to learn other languages. Some can be open about their faith while others work in places where it is dangerous to openly express Christianity. They work as teachers, college disciple-makers, Bible translators, doctors, refugee aid workers, administrators, and more. What they share in common is that they have been called by God to do the work they are doing and that they need our prayer! Here are some suggestions on how to pray for them:

  • Eyes to See Like Jesus: Ask God to give missionaries eyes to see as He sees and empower them to love as Jesus does.
  • Protection: Pray for safety, for good health, and for medical care if needed.
  • Direction from God: Pray for missionaries to get their direction from the Lord only.

These are general suggestions but we encourage you to get to know more about particular missions workers so that you can pray more personally. Would you and your family like to perhaps "adopt" one of our missions workers or families, sending notes to them and praying regularly for them? We can tell you more! Contact Pastor Lynda or any member of the Missions Team.

AUGUST SABBATH

Each year we take a break in August from some things like regular meetings, rehearsals, Sunday School, the Sunday morning coffee station, etc. This gives our staff and many of our volunteers time for rest and refreshment, as well as some time for planning as we gear up for a new school year. As always, pastoral staff will be available for you throughout the month unless a particular staff member is on vacation (which will be communicated in this weekly email)!

BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY

It's time for our annual Back to School Outreach! Children in our community will receive school supplies for the upcoming year and other practical items for the family.

Registration for kids to receive supplies is currently full. Volunteers are still needed for setup from 6-8pm on Friday, August 11 and for assisting community members at stations and clean-up on the morning of August 12. Click here or contact Pastor Carmen to sign up to help!

FAMILY WATER FUN

All families are invited to join us in the fenced-in lot at the church on August 19 for some water games and fun! We will meet from 10am to 12pm. Bring your water clothes and towels and plan to join in this little end-of-summer celebration! Questions? Contact Pastor Patty.

CHURCH PICNIC

Our Annual Church Picnic will be held at Lingle Park on Sunday, August 27 from 4pm to 8pm! There will be a few fun activities to take part in and plenty of time to simply "hang out." We'll enjoy a pot-luck picnic dinner - a couple meats and beverages will be provided. Please plan to bring a side dish or dessert to share!

BIBLE QUIZZING KICKOFF LUNCH

The Bible Quizzing team is starting a new season this fall! Any youth or adults wanting to learn more are encouraged to come to a kickoff lunch on Sunday, September 3 at 1pm in the Open Area. If you plan to come, please sign up here or visit the info desks in the Sanctuary.

POST-SECONDARY

SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Education offers opportunity and equity, and it is as important as ever in helping students not only survive but thrive. Some students, however, hit roadblocks to affordable education. HBIC has set up a scholarship fund to help students cover a small portion of their college costs like textbook or lab fees. If you're interested in an application, contact Pastor Brie.

DISCIPLESHIP WEEKLY PODCAST

Did you know we have an HBIC podcast? Pastor Ryan releases weekly interviews with different members of our church family, including highlights of personal stories and discipleship practices! We hope that the stories shared will be an inspiration and will encourage you to reach out to the Discipleship Team and explore different opportunities for growth in Christ. Click here for links to listen and check back each Friday morning for new episodes.

GROCERY GIFT CARDS

You can purchase gift cards for Giant, Weis and Karns through HBIC and we get 5% of the value of the card! We will have a table available in the lobby on the 2nd and 4th Sundays in between services for card purchases. You can also contact the church office or Pastor Lynda to order and we will arrange a pick-up time with you!

ROXBURY HOLINESS CAMP

Camp meeting is an annual opportunity for BIC family members from many states and countries to come and worship together and enjoy Roxbury's campground! This year's gathering will be August 4-13 and includes morning services, afternoon activities, evening services, meals, and more! For more information about lodging, schedules, and speakers, visit the Roxbury website.

Roxbury relies on volunteers to serve each of the meals. HBIC's day to serve is Thursday, but you can help on any of the days for any meals. Click here to sign up!
