Powerful Words

by Father Casey

“I am thankful for you.”

“I am proud of you.”

These are some of the most powerful words we can say or hear. Think about how you feel when someone say these words to you. Don’t they fill your heart and lift you up? Especially when you’re feeling a bit empty, or when the clouds of worry are blocking out all the light from your soul. If someone says, “I am proud of you,” or “I am thankful for you,” the clouds break and light shines in.

These words build confidence, restore dignity, and help a person feel loved, which is why I think of them as sacred words, for they evoke the godly goodness within us. They go alongside “I love you” and “I forgive you” as statements with the greatest power to transform a life. Sadly, we don’t say or hear them very often. Perhaps we feel self-conscious because they feel very personal. Perhaps we don’t want to embarrass ourselves or others or come across as patronizing.

But there are people all around us who are struggling to feel any self-worth, or who battle with a voice that constantly tells them they are a failure. There are people all around us who’ve never known the divine power of hearing someone say, “I am thankful for you,” or “I am proud of you.” So please, friends, be on the lookout for moments when we can say these holy words to someone.

This weekend we will celebrate Recognition Sunday in Roper Hall between services. As we do every year, we will ...

Outreach Reaches Out

The Outreach committee will be in the gathering space this week and the next several weeks to tell you about upcoming opportunities. Drop by for more information.

It's Recognition Sunday

Come get your breakfast tacos in Roper Hall this Sunday, May 21 at 10:00am. as we mark Recognition Sunday. This is the Sunday we celebrate our graduating seniors, formation teachers, and volunteers. This year we will recognize St. Hilda's Guild, Episcopal Men's Fellowship, and Outreach for their leadership and continued support of Transfiguration and our comunity.

Nurturing Faith Through Fiction

Join us in the Parlor at 7:00pm on May 25 to take part in a fun way to explore your faith experience. High quality fiction, whether in the form of a book or a film, has power to shape our understanding of and attitudes toward life. Each month we gather to discuss a novel - or to watch and discuss a movie - in light of its meaning for our own lives, our life together and our faithfulness to Christ.

Fellowship of the Fig Game Night

Our Young Adult Ministry will be hosting a game night, Friday, May 26 at 6:30pm in the Youth Center.

Come join us for an evening of pizza, fun, and fellowship.

Be The Voice of Pentecost

If you can read aloud in a language other than English, we invite you to add your voice as we hear the story of Pentecost from the Book of Acts in many languages. This has been a part of our worship on the weekend of Pentecost for many years. Please share your talents with us, May 27 & 28, at any of our three services. You can use the button below to let Father Ted know you would like to volunteer. Be sure to let him know the language you speak and which services you would be able to attend.
