See what is happening at Grace Lutheran!

August 3, 2023

This is a quick weekly reminder of what is happening at Grace

in worship and in ways to connect and serve.

Pastor's Message

Psalm 121

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—

from where will my help come?

2 My help comes from the Lord,

   who made heaven and earth.

Grace friends-

If you missed worshiping with us last weekend, here are the pictures I shared with the congregation! These are pictures from the High School Trip to Christikon Camp in Montana. It was a wonderful week. Our youth are really exceptional. Throughout our week backpacking we experienced many ups and downs. Our hikes were challenging especially when you add a pack that is 1/4 of your body weight. We tested the limits of being together for so long. We also studied the Bible each day, we looked at different parables and wondered just what does God's story have to do with our own. We peaked two different mountains Baboon and Independence.

Baboon was 10,600+ feet above sea level. Independence was much smaller but the chance to hike at sunset and worship God together with those amazing views will be a memory that lasts a long time. I am also grateful to Will Weikle our new CYF Director. It was so fun to have him along on this trip and begin to build relationships with the High School youth at Grace! I can tell you he is eager to continue this work! I am also grateful to Michele Behnke-Nead who came as an adult chaperone. We cannot do these trips with out supportive adults like Michele.

Pastor Joanna is on another trip with our high school youth this week. If you are on Facebook, you can follow Grace Lutheran Church and see some of the images and stories of their trip! There are 7 adult leaders traveling with those youth as well! We cannot offering life changing experiences to our youth without your congregational support! Thank you for investing in our kids through your support of Grace ministry operations.

It's funny to think summer is almost over and fall is on the horizon. But it's true! This week the office has been busy preparing our Fall Preview GraceNotes and many of our Fall Programming registrations are now LIVE on Realm. There is something for every age to get involved in here at Grace! Thanks be to God for our life together!

Blessings,

Pastor Maria Markman

The Minnesota Fringe Festival

is happening August 4-13!

Come see tales of faith, comedy, drama, dance, improv and more! How about making a local church outing or a more distant field trip for various events for all ages?

Jonah & Joanna and The Great Big Fish is a modern adaptation of the biblical tale as set in Minnesota with two young and reluctant prophets and lots of local comedy and drama. Experience this unique tale by storyteller Marie Cooney at Mixed Blood Theatre during Aug 4-13! For information and to Purchase tickets click here.

Join us Wednesday, August 9th, 5:00-8:00pm for another night of fun, food, fellowship and music. A great way to connect with others from Grace, and from our community. AND you won’t have to cook. 2023-2024 SUPPORT FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES AT

SAND CREEK ELEMENTARY!

We are so thankful for your donations in past years, but last year we heard school supplies were becoming out of stock by the time we got our list published. So we are beginning our drive this year in July! School supplies are always in need each year and so appreciated by the students and teachers! If you would like to help, please consider purchasing any of the items in the list below and return them to church in the tote labeled “Sand Creek School Supplies” that will be located in the narthex. The donations will be accepted through September 4.

You can also give a monetary donation of cash or check. If writing a check, please make it payable to Grace Lutheran Church and write “Sand Creek” in the memo line. The monetary donations will be used by the Sand Creek Grace Team toward the food expenses for the Sharing Grace Backpack Food Bags prepared and given each Friday to children who would otherwise go hungry over the weekend.
