CONNECTIONS | AUGUST 2023

From the Director | Refresh

August has been an unusually busy month. First, a refresh with the restructuring and renaming of the office that operates the MBDA Advanced Manufacturing Center, and the naming of Christopher R. Lundy, Esq. as the Director of the newly formed Mayor's Office of Small & Minority Business Advocacy and Development. On August 24, the office hosted its first Meet and Greet.

N. Scott N. Scott Philips, Esq., Director, Mid-Atlantic Region Minority Business Development Agency Advanced Manufacturing Center - Baltimore

Two of our clients received awards during the MBE Manufacturing Summit in Atlanta, and I joined our partners, the Regional Manufacturing Institute and the Maryland MEP and Governor Wes Moore during the annual Maryland Association of Counties Conference in Ocean City, Maryland.

Earlier this month the Maryland MEP, RMI and the MBDA AMC invited manufacturers to a webinar, Applying for the Manufacturing 4.0 Program – Tips, Best Practices and Questions Answered - Maryland MEP (mdmep.org). If you were unable to attend, I encourage Maryland based manufacturers to visit the replay and consider applying for this grant (application).

Maryland MEP Director Mike Kelleher (left) and RMI President Mike Galiazzo (right) flank Maryland Governor Wes Moore, who called for doing more to grow the state's economy and making Maryland manufacturing a priority at MACO.

Center clients Fabpro Technologies and Granite Works received national recognition as award winner in this Year's National MBE Manufacturers Summit, hosted by the Atlanta Minority Business Development Agency Business Center, operated by Georgia Tech. See Client Highlights below to learn more about these winning companies that are "Making a Difference" and "Breaking the Mold" in the manufacturing industry.

This year's summit, kicked off by Donald R. Cravins, Jr., Under Secretary of Commerce for Minority Business Development, Minority Business Development Agency, featured noted speakers on recruiting, training, and retaining tomorrow's top workforce talent.

Starting in this issue of Connections, we will refresh our Meet Our Team series, beginning with the introduction of our Center's core team below. Over the summer we have been working diligently to refresh and restart our CEO Advisory Roundtable program. The new format is set to begin September 19 and all clients are invited to attend. I will be facilitating the sessions with help from our business consultants. The new format will include a featured guest followed by our mastermind sessions.

I am extremely excited about the new directions and opportunities.
