Hello Beach Family,

I hope your semester is off to a good start. As we navigate the upcoming weeks, I wanted to provide you with some important updates and news.

  • Tuition Increase: I want to acknowledge that the CSU Board of Trustees has passed the tuition increase despite students' opposition. This news is undoubtedly disappointing, and I share your concerns. We will continue to work diligently to advocate for affordable education and explore options to support students affected by this increase.

Despite this recent disappointment and forthcoming challenge, there are positive developments and exciting opportunities to look forward to:

  • Southern Engagement Officer: I'm thrilled to announce that I was unanimously voted as the Southern Engagement Officer for CSSA. This role allows me to further advocate for your needs at the state level, ensuring your voices are heard.
  • ASI Events and Initiatives: We've had a successful start to the semester with events like Week of Welcome, Rec Fest and Smorgasport. With thousands of students attending these events, we are getting back to our pre-pandemic participation, and I couldn’t be more excited! Keep on showing up to the awesome events that ASI plans, including some upcoming events like Movies on the House, Speed Friending and more! Stay tuned to our many communications channels, including social, for details on events and how you can get involved.
  • Beach Shops Reopens the Beach Hut: The Beach Shops are celebrating the grand opening of the new and improved Beach Hut, offering easy, accessible and affordable dining choices that also stay open late. Check out the Beach Hut and all your dining options at csulb.edu/eat-and-shop.
  • Esports Arena Grand Opening: Join us on Sept. 22 from 10 - 11 a.m. at the new Esports Arena (formerly the USU Sticks Lounge) for the grand opening. This improved gaming space is the result of student advocacy and partnerships across campus. Don't miss the chance to explore this exciting addition to our university.

Your feedback and engagement are vital as we continue to address challenges and work on initiatives to enhance your campus experience. Please don't hesitate to reach out with your ideas, concerns, and suggestions. Your input shapes our community.

Thank you for being a part of the Long Beach State family. Together, we will face challenges head-on and celebrate our successes. Let's continue to strive for excellence and support one another as we navigate this journey of education.

Stay strong, stay connected, and, as always, Go Beach!
