Rancho Alamitos Student Advocates for Mental Health Awareness

Rancho Alamitos senior Emily is part of the NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) California's Youth Leadership Council which is composed of only six high school and college students from across California. Since January, they've been organizing the Youth Summit portion of NAMI California's annual conference. During the Youth Summit, they met with legislators to discuss what changes and reforms teens would like to see in future legislation regarding mental health care and rights.

Emily also spoke on a panel in front of an audience of over 150+ teens and adults, talking about how teens can advocate for mental health in their schools and communities. The panel was invited to an exclusive VIP dinner where they networked and spoke with mental health professionals and met the board of directors of NAMI California and shared future plans for NAMI California and mental health advocacy on school campuses! This is some next level leadership right here! #GGUSDPride
