A Message from the Founder & Presidents
As September unfolds, we find ourselves on the cusp of a new season. The promise of cooler weather and the changing leaves bring a sense of renewal, reminding us of the beauty in embracing change. With this spirit in mind, we wanted to take a moment to update you on the latest happenings at Adopt a Golden Atlanta.
Volunteers Needed:
Our incredible volunteers are the heart and soul of our organization. As we gear up for a busy season ahead, we are in need of dedicated individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of Golden Retrievers. Whether it's helping with adoption events, assisting in our foster program, or supporting our community outreach initiatives, your time and energy can truly transform the lives of our furry friends. If you have a few hours to spare and a heart full of compassion, we invite you to join our volunteer family.
Cooler Weather, Warmer Hearts:
The arrival of fall not only brings cooler temperatures but also reminds us of the warmth that comes from being surrounded by loved ones. For our Goldens awaiting their forever homes, your support and care provide that warmth. As the holiday season approaches, consider opening your heart and home to a Golden in need through fostering or adoption. There's no better feeling than watching a dog thrive in a loving environment.
The Power of Donations:
As we navigate the changing landscape of animal rescue, your donations remain a cornerstone of our mission. From providing medical care to covering the costs of food and shelter, every dollar contributes to the well-being of our Goldens. Your generosity fuels our ability to continue saving lives and finding loving homes. As we approach the end of the year, consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us reach even more dogs in need.
In the spirit of embracing change and the upcoming season, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who makes our work possible. Your support, whether through volunteering, adopting, or donating, creates a ripple effect of compassion that touches the lives of our furry companions.
Thank you for being a part of the Adopt a Golden Atlanta family. Together, we're positively impacting the lives of Golden Retrievers, one paw at a time.
Warmest wishes,
Lauren & Patti

Support Medical Care for
Golden Retrievers in Need!
| |
At Adopt a Golden Atlanta, we're on a mission to provide love, care, and a second chance to Golden Retrievers facing challenging medical conditions. The number of dogs being surrendered by owners and shelters has surged, and many require immediate medical attention. Our hearts go out to these pups who deserve a chance at a happy, healthy life.
We have 5 precious dogs waiting to join our family, but some must undergo a 7-day isolation period due to shelter regulations or need foster homes without other dogs. Sadly, some of these amazing dogs are surrendered due to medical issues like broken limbs, cancer, torn ACLs, and more. AGA has incurred over $30,000 in medical expenses in the past two months alone.
Imagine a pup with boundless love to give but unable to do so due to untreated medical conditions. Many pet owners face the heartbreaking decision to surrender their companions simply because they cannot afford the necessary medical care. One of our brave dogs is currently undergoing seizure treatment, a condition that demands careful attention and resources.
We're reaching out to our incredible community for support. Your donations can make a world of difference in providing these dogs with the medical care they urgently need. By contributing to our medical fund, you're directly impacting the lives of these innocent beings, allowing them to heal, thrive, and find their forever homes.
We invite you to stand with us in our commitment to these beautiful Golden Retrievers. With your support, we can ensure that no dog is left behind due to lack of medical care. Keep an eye out for heartwarming pictures of the dogs you'll be helping coming your way soon!
Donate today to give the gift of healing and hope. Together, we can make tails wag and brighten the lives of these deserving dogs.

10 Fun Facts About Golden Retrievers
Golden Retrievers are one of America’s most popular breeds year after year. This beautiful, exuberant, and loving dog breed is a devoted companion. But there’s so much more to know about this lovable breed.
| |
1. Golden Retrievers Trace Their History Back to Scotland
For decades, apocryphal stories were floating around that the Golden Retriever was descended from Russian circus dogs. This theory was debunked when the records of Lord Tweedmouth of Inverness in Scotland were released. In 1864, Lord Tweedmouth purchased a “yellow retriever” named Nous and bred him to a liver-colored Tweed Water Spaniel named Belle. The Golden Retrievers we know today are likely descended from Nous and Belle. Thank you, Lord Tweedmouth!
2. They Need Lots of Exercise
These active members of the Sporting Group make poor couch potatoes. They’re always ready for action, whether it’s a game of fetch, hiking, swimming, or other exercise. They’re natural athletes that excel at a variety of sports.
3. They’re a Hard-Working Breed
Golden Retrievers are used for everything from hunting to rescue and service dog work. Despite that playful, sometimes goofy demeanor, they learn quickly and can master a multitude of skills, including how to perform as search and rescue dogs at the site of a disaster.
4. Golden Retrievers Make Top-Notch Therapy Dogs
Goldens are often employed as therapy dogs to soothe and calm people. Goldens seem to have reserves of empathy and unconditional love. They can help calm and comfort almost anyone, from young children to elderly patients.
| | |
5. They Often Stay Young at Heart
Do you know all that exuberant puppy behavior? That tends to last longer in Golden Retrievers than in other breeds. They mature slowly and can be playful and downright silly into adulthood.
6. Golden Retrievers Love to Eat
And they’ll eat anything, from the dinner in their bowl to toys, paper, and crayons. If it’s out, it’s fair game. They also tend to overeat, so savvy owners know to limit treats, carefully measure out food, and feed them only at mealtimes.
7. Golden Retrievers Are Naturally Mouthy
Like other retrievers, Goldens are likely to carry something around everywhere they go, such as sticks, toys, clothing, or whatever else isn’t tied down.
8. When Carrying Objects, They’re Known For Their Soft Mouths
All retrievers must have a mouth “soft” enough to pick up and hold game (like ducks) without damaging them. The Golden’s mouth is so soft, it’s said they can carry a raw egg in their mouths without cracking the shell.
9. Goldens Shine in Dog Sports
As intelligent, athletic dogs, Goldens are exceptional competitors in dog sports like Obedience, Agility, Diving, and more.
10. They’re Perennially Popular Beds
The breed is perennially among the list of most popular dog breeds in the United States for decades. Their charm and appeal are simply timeless!

Call for Fosters - Please help?
We are issuing an URGENT PLEA for Fosters. Our capacity is stretched and we need to create space for Goldens in shelters and those needing new homes. Becoming a foster could mean saving a life, and that's a legacy worth leaving!
Check Your Dog Once A Month on the 14th!
Facts about Cancer in Dogs
Did you know that 1 in 3 dogs will be diagnosed with cancer? 50% of those dogs will die from cancer. In humans, there are 1.5 million new cases of cancer each year, but in dogs, there are 6 million new cases of cancer diagnosed each year. Dog cancer prevention is key to a long healthy life with your dog.
It is important that you start your fight against canine cancer and any other health issue from the day you bring your dog home. Checking your dog once a month for lumps and bumps or any abnormal behavior is key in the prevention of any health issue with your dog. We recommend doing it on the 14th of every month. Checking your dog will be a great little bonding time with your dog. If you are starting with a young dog, this time will also prepare them for their future vet wellness visits.
| |
Now how exactly do you do this?
Start at their nose and work all the way to their tail. Make sure you are in a familiar, low-key environment where you and your pet can do this without distraction. In other words, not during dinner time or when you expect the mailman to be buzzing by the house.
