Community Wildfire Protection Plan Update
The CWPP is a multi-jurisdictional plan, and represents the work of a large number of stakeholders seeking to create a roadmap of pre-disaster actions that can be taken to reduce risks from future wildfire and wildfire smoke events. Among the groups who collaborated in this plan were: fire districts across the county: local, regional, state and federal land management agencies; power utilities; and public health and human services departments. These stakeholders, and many others, came together to identify risks across the county and develop priority mitigation action items.
The adoption of the updated plan makes entities within Multnomah County eligible for the Community Wildfire Defense Grant (CWDG), a US Forest Service cost-share program administered locally by the Oregon Department of Forestry. The grant has the purpose of implementing risk reduction projects identified in CWPPs, and closes on October 31.

MCEM Partners with Communities for Emergency Preparedness
MCEM Operations staff made several visits to local communities this summer. Events included a discussion with a youth group at the Ethiopian and Eritrean Cultural and Resource Center and two presentations/discussions at Hacienda residences in the Cully and Rockwood neighborhoods.
At these events, we covered preparedness for current emergencies in the County such as hot weather and air quality from local fires, Alert and Warning systems and general emergency preparedness. In these community presentations, Multnomah County emphasizes the importance of community building as a key part of emergency preparedness. A diverse personal and community web helps spread the burden of disaster preparedness and response. No one should have to prepare for a potential disaster alone, and building a strong, diverse community in “blue sky” time is an important component to being prepared and building resiliency.
Multnomah County is committed to partnering with our local community groups to prepare for disasters and create more resilient communities. If you are a part of a community group that would like Multnomah County to visit and discuss preparedness, please fill out an Emergency Management Presentations and Materials request form. Language interpretation for presentations is available, as are resources in multiple languages.
