On Sunday night at 8:20pm my wife an I were standing in the kitchen of the rental house were staying in (until our house is rebuilt), when out of nowhere she yells "Oh my God, there's a bear in the backyard, go get Bronson!" I turned around to see a giant, very healthy looking Black Bear that was coming out of the woods and onto the grass. I ran to the garage to see if our Beagle Bronson was sleeping in his garage kennel, when I jumped down the steps into the garage my heart dropped at the sight of his empty bed. I turned to go out the side door which is when I started to record the video above. As you can see in the video, the bear was walking straight towards Bronson (who also happened to be standing in front of our trashcans) and he only stopped once he saw me coming through the doorway. Was he about to make a snack out of our little pupper? Or was he simply standing in the way of his favorite trash buffet? Luckily he turned around and headed for the woods before we could find out. It was quite the heart pounding moment for me, this was only the second time I've seen a bear in real life (outside of a zoo), which is odd for someone who lived in Fieldbrook for 18 years. If you live on the East side of McKinleyville keep your trashcans in the garage, my neighbors trash was all over the road on Monday morning! |
