An Introduction to the English Language Institute (ELI) for Graduate and Professional Students

Brief Description: Anna Eddy from the U-M English Language Institute (ELI) invites you to a Zoom conversation to learn about ELI courses and other resources to support graduate students who speak English as an additional language. ELI offers small, interactive academic English courses (free to full-time students) to support you through all stages of your academic career. In addition, the ELI also offers one-on-one speaking and writing support, opportunities for informal language practice, and one-time workshops to help you communicate effectively and excel in your coursework and research.

IIE Workshop: Finalizing your Fulbright Application

Brief Description: The Institute of International Education (IIE), on behalf of the U.S. State Department, administers the Fulbright U.S. Student Program, which offers research, study, and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students. This competition is administered on campus by the International Institute (II). In this workshop, U-M Fulbright Program Advisors will review the online application and detail final steps for submitting an application by the U-M campus deadline on August 27. Attendees should start an online application before the workshop.

Linguistic Cultural Sensitivity for Working with Russian-Speaking Clients
Date: August 25, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Brief Description: In partnership with the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center, Elena Lewis and Olivia Lewis will present a webinar on the linguistic and cultural implications of working with Russian-speaking clients. The presentation will include suggestions for working with clients affected by the trauma of the war, as well as how Russian culture and experiences inform how they receive mental health information and therapy. This is a free hour-long webinar that is suggested for practitioners, volunteers, and others working on an individual level with this population.

International Human Trafficking and Social Justice Conference

Brief Description: The University of Toledo Human Trafficking & Social Justice Institute invites you to virtually connect with a growing community of global anti-trafficking advocates committed to social justice. Fulbright Application Deadline: August 27
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers research, study, and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students. This competition is administered on campus by the International Institute. Enrolled students must apply through U-M and provide proof of a campus interview and endorsement as part of their application. Recent alumni (within the past 3 years) may also apply through U-M.
