Setting Students Up For Success
By Gretchen Benton

As we approach Fall semester, it is time to think about how we set new students up for success in a new term. I wanted to highlight some changes that have been made to our orientation/introduction courses. These courses cover an introduction to Davidson-Davie services/processes, how to use Moodle, and other helpful skills that you can share with your students. To access any of these modules, students will first need to activate their StormTrac accounts and sign up for MFA. Students encountering login issues should use an alternative email to connect with password@davidsondavie.edu

New Student Orientation
Our New Student Orientation is no longer located on Moodle! On May 30, 2023, this orientation was moved to a new platform and orientation can be found by signing into the Orientation Dashboard. They will have access to the traditional orientation, but also an orientation specifically for students who are enrolled in online programs, as well as a module about accessibility and accommodations.

Student Introduction to Moodle
The Student Introduction to Moodle is available to all students who are enrolled in a curriculum course or continuing education courses with the LMS tag/Moodle course shell. This introduction course allows students to practice submitting quizzes, assignments, forums and more inside of Moodle. If your student reports that they cannot find or access this course please email moodle@davidsondavie.edu

Student Success Workshops
By signing into the Orientation Dashboard you (and your students!) also get access to a variety of online Student Success Workshops. Topics include study skills, managing finances, stress management, being a successful online student, and so much more. Students can access these short modules as needed or you can share a link to the module with them as a recommended resource in your course.

Paris

Another cohort of four Davidson-Davie students arrived in Paris for a three-week summer camp with our partner EPITA School of Engineering and Technology. They will also focus on language and culture, spending most of their days in the classroom with cultural excursions interspersed.
YuJa Tutorials are Available
By Trudy Brown

As thoughts turn to the upcoming semester, you may be getting ready to make some new video lesson content. Have you explored our new video platform yet? We've put together some tutorials to help you find your way around your YuJa account. You can get started with YuJa using our YuJa Basics tutorials to learn about YuJa's basic functions like replacing your old VidGrid video links or recording and editing a video. If you're a veteran content creator and want something a little more challenging, peruse our YuJa Advanced tutorials to learn about features like advanced editing tools, video quizzes, and analytics tools.

If you have questions and can't find the answers in our tutorials, contact trudy_brown@davidsondavie.edu or amy_holmes@davidsondavie.edu
In Case You Missed It!
By Gretchen Benton

Brickfield, Copyleaks, and GradeMe were officially added to our Moodle at the beginning of the month! See a quick description of each new tool and a tutorial on how to use it below.
Brickfield

Brickfield+ is an accessibility tool that replaced Ally in Moodle. While we wait for the tool to be fully integrated, you and your students can begin requesting alternative formats of files right now by clicking the little colorful icon beside files, folders, books, and pages in your Moodle courses.

Copyleaks

Copyleaks is a plagiarism detection tool that replaced Safe Assign in Moodle. It is ready to use right now inside of assignments, quizzes, and forums. You can add it to new activities or edit the settings on existing activities to add a Copyleaks scan. Scans are easy to review while grading.

GradeMe

GradeMe is a new block that you can add to your courses or your Dashboard page in Moodle. The GradeMe block will display activities with submissions that need to be graded. Check out this great tool and save time grading in your classes! Note: Your students will not be able to see this block!
