Meshell Johnson, Leslie Miya, Denise Davis, and Erika Price were honored as SFVA Women Trailblazers for Women’s Equality Day.

Averil Ma was honored for founding and chairing the Scientific Advisory Board for the Kenneth Rainin Foundation.

Neil Powe received the Cato T. Laurencin M.D., Ph.D. Lifetime Research Award from the W. Montague Cobb/National Medical Association Health Institute.

Priya Prasad was named associate editor of the Journal of Hospital Medicine.

Dolores Shoback received the Outstanding Scholarly Physican Award from the Endocrine Society.

Puneet Sood was named director of the Kidney Transplant Unit (KTU) at UCSF Health.

Gina Solomon received the Jean Spencer Felton Award for Excellence in Medical Writing from the Western Occupational and Environmental Medical Association.

Peter Chin-Hong described the risks of the new BA.2.86 variant in interviews with ABC News and the New York Times. He was also quoted by the Los Angeles Times advising Taylor Swift concertgoers who are immunosuppressed to wear masks.

In an interview with CNN, Beth Cohen cautioned against the misperception that inhaling marijuana smoke is safer than tobacco smoke.

Steven Deeks discussed NIH trials for long Covid treatments in an interview with KQED, emphasizing the trials’ potential to determine if there are effective treatments for the disease.

Monica Gandhi celebrated the expanded insurance coverage for two HIV-prevention drugs in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle.

Alison Huang was interviewed by Stat News providing details on her study that links childhood stress to physical and cognitive issues in older age.

In an interview with the Mercury News, Margot Kushel emphasized the need for well-maintained homeless housing in San Jose, and she discussed Hurricane Hilary’s risks to the homeless population in an interview with USA Today.

Grace Lin, speaking to STAT News, cautioned against overhyped and expensive full-body MRI scans and the potential for misleading marketing.

Annie Leutkemeyer was quoted by CNN highlighting the benefits of a single doxycycline dose for preventing sexually transmitted infections.

Michael Peluso was quoted in the Mercury News saying that long Covid symptoms can persist for years.

Gina Solomon spoke to KVPR discussing her work on a home filtration system designed to remove pollutants from wildfire smoke.

Geoff Tison was featured in the San Francisco Chronicle discussing his research on AI algorithms that can read ECGs and detect several different heart conditions.

Bob Wachter was featured in the Mercury News fielding questions about Covid testing, treatment, and the EG.5 variant. He also spoke to the New York Times and CNN noting the uptick in Covid cases and recommending the upcoming fall vaccine.
