St Luke Parish - Color Stacked_no address.png

May 15, 2024

This weekend we celebrate Pentecost Sunday.

St. Luke's Blue-Red Mass

On Thursday, May 16th, at the regularly scheduled 5:30pm Mass, St. Luke the Evangelist will celebrate a special Mass to not only remember first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, but to thank the women and men who serve and protect us each day and to pray for their safety. Please, let’s show our support and fill the church!

Innervisions Baby Bottle Campaign

The Knights of Columbus here at St. Luke's is organizing a Baby Bottle Campaign for InnerVisions HealthCare, a local unplanned pregnancy and STD medical clinic. Their mission is to empower women in vulnerable situations to choose parenting or adoption. During the weekend of May 19th, you’ll find baby bottles in the gathering space; please take a bottle, fill it with change, cash, or checks and return it on the weekend of May 26th.

If you have any questions, please contact Bryan Gonzalez at 515.280.4706. To learn more about their two clinics and life-affirming mission, visit: www.ivhcare.org.

St. Luke's Sister Parish Trip

Several people from the parish and diocese, including Fr. Ryan, will be making a trip to visit our Sister Parish, St. Martin De Porres, in Zuarungu Ghana at the beginning of June. We’d like to send the travelers with notes from our parishioners so they can get to know us and what life is like in Iowa. Please stop by the table in the gathering space the weekend of May 25/26 to write a quick note. Notes/photos can also be sent to matthewdawsonva@gmail.com. We will also have a bin in the narthex to collect a limited amount of gifts to send to Zuarungu. Ideas include Iowa themed items, candy (not chocolate or candy that would melt in the heat), crayons, pencils, coloring books, small games/cards. Please be mindful of size and weight as all of the gifts that are collected will need to fit into 2 or 3 suitcases.  Please pray for the travelers as they begin to build relationships with our Sister Parish and School.

Catholic Worker House

Be the hands and feet of Christ by providing or serving lunch to homeless and low-income members of our community on Saturday May 25th. This is a great opportunity to help others who are less fortunate. More information can be found at CWH: Catholic Worker House May 25th - deliver to 2502 NW 9TH ST (signupgenius.com). Lunch is served on the 4th Saturday of every month. If you’d like to be added to the monthly email, please contact Eva at 515-210-6302 or paulneva@msn.com

Love Lunches

Love Lunches is a summer lunch program in Ankeny for children and their families that is solely supported by Ankeny churches and not affiliated with the school district.

Ankeny has two lunch sites:

·The East site at the Ankeny Presbyterian Church on 3rd and Trilein

·The West site at Sunset Park at 1320 S.W. 3rd St.

St. Luke’s members volunteer at the west site. About 60 meals are served daily.

This summer the Love Lunch Program is from May 28 through August 22, Monday through Friday. Lunch is served from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.

If you are interested in helping, you can do so by signing up to:

·Help prepare the food at Ankeny First United Methodist Church at 206 SW Walnut

·Transport food and equipment from the church to Sunset Park

·Help to serve the food at Sunset Park

Sign up here to volunteer. Volunteer descriptions and hours are available on the website. Teens can volunteer and it is a great way to earn hours for Silver Cord or Scouts. Feel free to bring children to help.

New Father/Son Program Coming Soon!

We are excited to begin a new Father/Son program called Pater et Filius for the 2024/2025 School Year. This is replacing the Conquest program and is designed for boys K-8 with their fathers.

The goal of this program will be to expand upon the Education in Virtue series administered through the school/parish and is an opportunity to explore the Virtues and Saints while cultivating Father/Son fellowship through outings and activities.

We will meet once a month on First Fridays in the evenings from September to May. (Time and location are TBD pending specific activities and outings).

The cost for the program will be $150 for Father/Son, plus $50 for each additional son (Non-parish members will have an extra cost of $100). The cost will help cover Education in Virtue materials, plus pizza for each month's gathering. Note that there could be additional expenses for each particular outing. If cost is a prohibiting factor for your family, please let us know and we can consider accommodations.

Note: This will not be a drop-off program. The intent is for this to be a Father/Son program, and cultivate consistent fellowship within the group. Fathers must participate, and both fathers and sons must make an effort to attend as many activities as possible.

Stay tuned for registration coming soon!
