Crosstown Connection - September 7

Crosstown Retreat @ Covenant Pines September 15-17, 2023 Covenant Pines is a magical place to unplug and invest in relationships – with your family, your church family and with Jesus! There are a variety of lodging accommodations; tent, cabin, the retreat center or the fancier Silver Beach cabins. You can head out on the water in a kayak, canoe, or waterbike, snuggle up by the campfire, make s’mores, go on a hay-less hayride, hike, ride bikes, play blacklight dodgeball, catapult yourself into the sky with the big swing, play pickleball, play board games, or put together a jigsaw puzzle. September Message Series “My sheep listen to my voice.” These are the words of Jesus from John 10:27. In this declaration, we discover the MOST IMPORTANT task we will ever pursue–LISTENING to JESUS VOICE! In our worship messages in September, we’ll focus on this glorious pursuit. Perhaps the best way to prepare ourselves is by reflecting on this question: “Do I actually desire to hear from God? Am I open to hear whatever that the Holy Spirit has for myself and Crosstown?”

Important Reminder: Sunday, September 17 So that our leaders and staff can participate in the Crosstown Retreat (September 15-17), there will be no in-person or livestream worship in Minneapolis on Sunday, September 17.

The Alpha Course is a 12-week journey focused on exploring Christian faith in a friendly environment that includes a meal. Each week we’ll focus on a topic: Who is Jesus? Why Read the Bible? Why / How Do I Pray? This adventure launches on Wednesday, September 20 @ 6 pm. Kids Too Launching! Kids Too! Is back in full swing, searching up some ‘how-to’ guides! Asking Jesus about the basics of being his followers.   Kids Too! Invites kids ages 4 years through 5th grade to games, snacks, Bible teaching and small group time. We will meet in the Crosstown Kids Center!

Power of Prayer Group! One way to respond to Crosstown’s fresh prayer initiative is by participating in POP (Power of Prayer)! This group gathers every Tuesday morning this summer from 9 AM -10 AM on Zoom. This is open to anyone who desires to be in corporate prayer to seek God's plan and desire for Crosstown. The prayer time will be led by different individuals but we seek to: Pause (with silence)…Praise (give thanks)…Promise (scripture)…Prayer (remainder of the hour). If you have any questions, please call Kathleen Lindahl at 612-866-2063.

Youth Ministry returns on Wednesday, September 20 with our series on prayer! What is it? How do we do it? Why do we do it? We invite students 6th - 12th grade to join us in the gym at 6:30 p.m. for community time together before we head down to the Youth Commons for teaching time and small groups.

Discipleship Confirmation On Wednesday, September 7 the D/C class for ‘23-’24 began with a great meal prepared by Chef Brandon Polhemus!  Let’s be praying for our students as they set sail on this great adventure of faith (Elena Larson, Roman Inestroza, Jack Ponce).  They are pictured here with their mentors.  These students will be receiving their Bibles on Sunday, September 24.

Death of Ray Wilson Ray Wilson, a longtime friend of Crosstown, passed away in August. A Memorial Service led by Pastor John Jacobi will be held on Tuesday, September 19 @ 10:30 pm (Washburn McReavy, Bloomington Chapel) with a lunch to follow. Sympathy may be extended to Marty Wilson at marty.alignments@gmail.com
