SAINT MARK'S MISSION & OUTREACH

This Sunday: Salad Extravaganza in Honor of the Morton Family

The Morton Family's last Sunday in attendance at St. Mark's will be this Sunday, July 16th during the 9:30 liturgy and following coffee hour.

During Coffee Hour, we are planning to have a special salad potluck to celebrate the Morton family. St. Mark's will provide drinks available for all ages and tastes. We ask that all parishioners bring a salad (fruit, pasta, potato, Caesar, spinach, chicken, quinoa, rice - all salads are encouraged). Come and help us celebrate the Morton family and bask in the bitter-sweet joy and sadness as we say goodbye and wish them well on their new adventure.

Building Renewal Committee Update (7/13)

A happy phenomenon that occurs when we’re working on an issue or project is a solution or direction appearing as if it were ordained to be so. “Worrying” and “Working” intentionally ultimately produces a great “Voilà!” After the July Vestry meeting, our Rector and Senior Warden will announce the product of the Architect Search, however, the quality of the performance of the sub-committee of the Building Renewal Committee has been noteworthy, joyful, and exemplary. After consensus reached on the firm we wish to attract, then all the work of recommendations, research, referencing, interviews, and various scull sessions had our Team buzzing with enthusiasm for each and every detail that remained to be able to officially recommend to the Vestry our architectural soul-mate. “Voilà!” To move forward confidently with this audacious project demands the kind of fit that we have established. The very personal and professional experience that resides in our Team assures that this relationship will “Build Something Beautiful.” Our strengths are grounded in all of us, our relational and ever-interested Community. “Voilà!”

St. Mark's Youth at the Episcopal Youth Event (EYE)

St. Mark's Members, Eli Crowley and Alex Miller-Mutia, represented St. Mark's as part of the youth delegation from the Diocese of the Rio Grande at the 2023 Episcopal Youth Event (EYE), July 3-8 in Baltimore Maryland. Among the highlights of the event were a number of fantastic preachers. You may enjoy videos of the EYE sermons and plenary addresses here, and touch base with Alex and Eli to compare notes and learn more about their EYE experiences. Surviving & Preventing Abuse: St. Mark's Survivors Share Their Stories

Each summer at St. Mark's we work to get ready for a new school and program year. Part of getting ready is renewing our commitment to making St. Mark's a Safe Church, for everyone--including children, youth, elders, and other vulnerable people. One step we can take to prevent abuse of all kinds, including sexual abuse, is to openly talk about it as a church community. Talking about difficult subjects in the context of a safe, supportive, spiritual community can be healing for those who have been impacted by abuse and also play an important role in protecting others from experiencing abuse.

At the end of August, we will offer a two-part Safe Church Forum at St. Mark's

Part 1 (Sunday, August 20th, 11:30 a.m.): members of St. Mark's who have been impacted by abuse will share their experiences as part of a panel discussion on Surviving Abuse.

Part 2 (Sunday, August 27th, 11:30 a.m.): we'll review/highlight the basic Safe Church policies that all members of St. Mark's are expected to uphold as part of our commitment to making St. Mark's a Safe Church.

If you have been impacted by abuse and would like to discuss your experience with a member of St. Mark's clergy and/or participate in our panel discussion on August 20th, please contact Mother Sylvia (via email here) to schedule an appointment for further conversation.

Summer of Conversation, Conversation Cafés & Logbook

Summer of Conversation will occur throughout the summer, but meeting at the church on Sundays is a ready-made meeting place option for most. With the formation classes on hiatus for the summer, we're opening up what we call, "Conversation Cafés" where people may meet for their Summer of Conversations in the Parish Hall after worship on Sunday mornings.

We have a Summer of Conversation Logbook for all parishioners to log their conversations. It resides on the table in the hallway between the narthex and the Parish Hall. Please update it regularly with whom you've met with and what date you met so that we can make sure everyone has a conversation (logging is not required, but we do have some cool stickers if you participate!). The logbook is sorted alphabetically by last name. If you're not in the book, there are blank sheets you may put your name on the inner flap of the binder cover.
