Hello Branch Members,
A I write to you I am sitting outside on a sunny, breezy, beautiful summer day. I hope that you are enjoying this season by being with people you can have fun with and doing things that you like to do. All too soon many of us will be back in the hustle and bustle of the school atmosphere. By the time you read this newsletter, we will have had the New England Science of Reading School Leadership Summit with Natalie Wexler and Carol Tolman, co sponsored by Amplify and IDA-NNEA. Dr. Tolman and Natalie Wexler, Esq. are always engaging and knowledgeable speakers.
Many of you have attended our READ for Parents series offered the second Wednesday of each month. READ, an acronym for Research, Education, and Advocacy of Dyslexia, features a different guest expert sharing their knowledge for 60-90 minutes about one of the IDA fact sheets. We are thrilled to announce the addition of a new series beginning this fall entitled READ for Professionals. This webinar will be held on the alternating second Wednesday of the months from 7-8:30p.m. As the title indicates, this series will focus on information for the professionals. Whether you are new to teaching, a long-time educator, administrator, or someone looking for a syllabi aligned with the science of reading, there will be a wealth of information to share. We hope to offer CEU’s for these webinars. More information will be coming soon.
We are very excited to once again be offering a two-day conference on October 26 and 27. Last year we had over 1000 participants and we know this year’s event will be equally amazing!! Entitled Unraveling the Strands: Digging Deeper into the Science of Reading, we are hosting renowned speakers including Carol Tolman, Linnea Ehri, Louisa Moats, Mitchell Brookins, Charles Haynes, Jane Ashby, and Joan Sedita, Leslie Laud, Heidi Zollman and Nadine Gaab. These wonderful presenters will be discussing the different strands of the reading rope, weaving them together to support literacy outcomes. We will also screen the documentary Blame It on Gutenberg followed by a panel discussion. Registration is now open so beat the rush and reserve your tickets. Remember, the conference is virtual and recordings are available through December 2023.
Enjoy the rest of your summer,
Susan Hourihan, CALP
