Formation: Breathing Underwater: Spirituality and the 12 Steps

Sundays 11:15 a.m.

Location: Classroom 3 (Montessori classroom nearest the kitchen)

Facilitator: Thomas Russell

"We are all addicted in some way. When we learn to identify our addiction, embrace our brokenness, and surrender to God, we begin to bring healing to ourselves and our world. In his book, Breathing Under Water: Spirituality & the Twelve Steps, Richard Rohr shows how the gospel principles in the Twelve Steps can free anyone from any addiction—from an obvious dependence on alcohol or drugs to the more common but less visible addiction that we all have to sin."

Join us for a weekly time of mutual support and accountability in community. We’ll begin each session by reading together a chapter from Richard Rohr’s book, Breathing Under Water: Spirituality & the Twelve Steps. We will then spend time together in silent meditation/contemplation/prayer. We’ll conclude our sessions with time for reflection, sharing, and conversation. All are welcome.

Community Conversation: Safe Church Follow Up

yellow_closeup_flower.jpg

Sunday, September 17 at 5pm in Stoney Chapel

In August we held a series of community conversations at St. Mark's around experiencing, responding to, and preventing abuse. These are important conversations, and we are profoundly grateful for the courage and care of all the members of St. Mark's who participated. These are also difficult conversations, and we want to create space for anyone who might need some follow up care, conversation, prayer, or support following their participation in these conversations.

Please feel free to join us in holding safe space for follow-up care and connection in Stoney Chapel on Sunday, September 17th from 5-6pm. And feel free to reach out to Mother Sylvia (email here), Deacon David (email here), or Fr. Christopher (email here) for one-on-one care, conversation, prayer, or support at any time.

Exhibit: New One-Person Art Exhibit in the Library

For September, Heather Gaume's artwork will be featured in the library of St. Mark's.  Most of her current work is done with watercolors, although there will be some Not-for-Sale pieces on loan from their owners. All of the proceeds from the sales of this show will benefit the Building Renewal Fund.

Read more about Heather here.

Pictured: Self Portrait, by Heather Gaume.

Correction: This exhibit will only be up through the month of September, not through October, as previously reported.

Exhibit: New Sacred Arts Exhibit in the Parish Hall

Stop by the Parish Hall to view the newly installed, all-media, multiple-artists Sacred Arts Guild Exhibit featuring 'Scapes (Sky, Land, City, etc.). The exhibit is open M-Th 9-2 and on Sundays from 9-12, from September 2 through December 3. St. Mark's retains 20% of all sales.

Outreach: Food Pantry Volunteer Opportunity

Our friends at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in the North Valley need help.

Their food pantry, Casa San Miguel, is experiencing nearly double the number of families seeking assistance. While the food pantry can always use money and food donations, they really need people to come help out.

The times are Mondays and Tuesdays, 6:30 – 10:00 on both days. You can work a portion of those times. While there is some lifting (40-pound boxes) involved, there are other jobs which do not require too much manual labor.

Please contact Deacon David (via email here) for more information and to sign up.
