September Tips and Tricks

Thank you for subscribing to our Tips & Tricks email.

Often, we hear customers say: â€œI didn’t know QuoteWerks did that."

We aim to deliver step-by-step instructions to guide you through actionable changes you can make to maximize the use of QuoteWerks.

Real Customer Inquiry

"It appears that the Accounts → TaxRegionID and Accounts → TaxExempt data can be retrieved. It would be great if QuoteWerks was able to pull this information and automatically set the tax rate (and for tax exempt, set the tax rate to 0%)."

You asked, and QuoteWerks delivered! Learn more about this robust feature by reading below!

When creating a quote and adding products and services to it, you'll find a Tax Code column in the Quote Workbook, indicating the tax code for each line item.

To specify the tax code, simply click within the Tax Code Column and select the appropriate code from the drop-down menu. In this column, you can input "Y" for taxable or "N" for non-taxable. Alternatively, choose the desired option from the Tax Code drop-down.

You can configure tax codes for products, services, bundles, and configurations within their respective databases. Any entity requiring a tax code association provides a tax code selection option.

Please note that the chosen tax system (USA, Canada, or International) is saved with each quote.

For tax rate management, utilize the Tax Rate field.

To adjust the sales tax rate, click next to the Tax Rate field, and a list will appear for adding different sales tax rates. You can include a description for clarity, making it easier to identify the correct tax rate. Additionally, you can use DataLink to automatically retrieve the customer's sales tax rate from your CRM or PSA.

Tax is applied to taxable items when adding products or services to the quote, with the total sales tax displayed at the bottom of the Document Items tab.

The Tax Rate Lookup feature, included with the Real-time Module, retrieves the accurate sales tax rate based on the contact's zip code and city from the Sold to / Ship to tab.

You can select the appropriate rate from a list of available rates for the current zip code. Use the Location drop-down to choose among Sold to, Ship to, or Bill to zip codes for the document.

The Tax Rate Lookup service also provides the last update date for the QuoteWerks Tax Table, indicating when tax codes were last updated. Effective dates of city, state, and county taxes are also displayed for reference.
