Through a glass darkly: Contours of the

Coming International Order in Light of the Russian War on Ukraine

Dr. Anne Clunan


Anne Clunan, associate professor at the Naval Postgraduate School

and an authority on Russia and international relations, will speak on

Ukraine and the Changing World Order.

This inaugural lecture in The Dorothy and Jim Clunan Lecture Series on Cultural Understanding and World Affairs honors Acadia Senior College founders Dorothy and Jim Clunan.


Anne follows her parents’ tradition of distinguished service in international affairs. She founded and led the Civic Education Project in countries transitioning from Communism, receiving the Velvet Revolution award from the Czech and Slovak governments. She subsequently worked in the U.S. Senate, the U.S. Department of State, where she was mentored by Madeleine Albright, and the British Houses of Parliament.

Members Only Fall Birding Walk

Signs of fall: Classes are underway, and summer neighbors are heading out. Songbirds and seabirds are leaving our area and others are passing through on their way South. 


ASC members are invited to join Seth Benz, Director of Bird Ecology at Schoodic Institute, on a fall migration birding walk on MDI.

Food for Thought

A British Nurse in WWII

Friday, September 22nd at 11:30 a.m.


Drawn from the original journals and albums of Sister Shirley Jean McNab of the British Army, Val Libby presents an illustrated talk about her mother's experience overseas near the frontlines of North Africa and Italy for almost four years of WWII.


Join us for soup, salad, sandwiches, and dessert at our September Food for Thought presentation at Birch Bay Village in Hulls Cove.


This presentation will also be offered on Zoom.

Winter Course Proposals Due

Have an idea for a course?


We encourage you to propose a course based on your professional careers, personal interests, or passions!


No prior teaching experience is required and topics might range from academic subjects in literature, history, the sciences, or arts, to sports, games, dancing, or practical skills from photography to food.


Course proposals for the Winter 2024 term are

due Monday, September 25th.


Teaching for Acadia Senior College is rewarding and fun! You will meet new people and undoubtedly learn from your students as well. Plus, all instructors are entitled to one free class for each course taught. Share your passion - if you have an idea for a class, a special skill, or knowledge you would like to share, please consider teaching a class.
