Oldtime Baseball Game

A Magical Night for The Boston Home!

The Boston Home extends our deepest appreciation to all of the event organizers, players, sponsors, families and supporters who made the 29th annual Abbot Financial Management Oldtime Baseball Game such a magical night for The Boston Home community. Special thanks to Aidan Freeburg, Steve Buckley, Sean Flanagan, Fred Lynn, Lenny Clarke, Ben Weiss, Andrew Novelline, Jesse Haley, Carol Jones, Amber Bassett and Paul Wahlberg.

The game achieved its ambitious goal of raising $80,000, an amount selected in honor of #8 Aidan Freeburg who led this campaign. Funds raised will support essential, life-enhancing programs for The Boston Home residents and outpatients.

Oldtime Baseball Player Aidan Freeburg, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) at age 19, stepped up to lead this year's fundraising efforts on behalf of people with MS and selected The Boston Home as the funding recipient.

Red Sox Hall of Famer Fred Lynn served as honorary manager at the game, pictured here with Fran Murphy, CFO of The Boston Home. Fran is the grandson of Lou Perini, who owned the Boston Braves.

Comedian Lenny Clarke, who has siblings living with MS, entertained the crowd with a live auction to raise funds for The Boston Home. Clarke stopped for a photo with Sam P., a resident of Harmon Apartments on The Boston Home campus.

The Oldtime Baseball Game was a family affair, with Aidan Freeburg's mom, Carol, and girlfriend, Amber, playing an integral part in the planning and fundraising.

Resident Bob D., left, served on the event planning committee, while Randy Hawthorne, right, Chair of The Boston Home Board of Trustees, was the game's first base sponsor.

Celebrity chef Paul Wahlberg served up ballpark burgers with his Wahlburgers team. He joined planning committee member Annie B., and her son Tommy Betschart for a photo. Betschart's 360CPR Training and Hingham Firefighters Local 2398 were sponsors.

Jody G. and Book Club Celebrate 17 Years of Books and Friendship

Ernest Hemingway said that, "there is no friend as loyal as a book," but these ladies may prove him wrong. For an impressive seventeen years, resident Jody G. and her friends have met regularly to discuss their most recent reads. This month, they gathered at The Boston Home for pizza, conversation, and a chance to celebrate their book club anniversary.

Wellness Wisdom from B.Fit!

Welcome to a new feature of The Boston Home newsletter! Each month, we will share a wellness tip from our B.Fit! program. B.Fit! provides members with exercise, participation in community activities, mindfulness, meditation and mutual support.

This month's B.Fit! wellness tip is to set a goal of spending at least 30 minutes of time outdoors each day in order to take full advantage of the late summer weather. For many people, time spent outdoors can help to improve mood, reduce stress and increase both physical activity and access to vitamin D through sunlight. Spending time outdoors may also help to improve sleep. B.Fit! members have been enjoying plenty of time outdoors on community outings this summer. Pictured at right, Bob D. and Tony K. enjoy the view at Castle Island. For more information about B.Fit!, please contact Program Director Emily Lakis at 617-326-4300 or elakis@thebostonhome.org.
