New learning pathway for Class drivers

Alberta’s government is improving Class 1 licensing and training with a new, made-in-Alberta learning pathway for professional truck drivers.

This announcement aligns with recommendations from ACC's “Addressing the Truck Driver Shortage Through a Redesign of Class 1 Driver Training” policy, which supports the review of claims and recruitment restrictions related to Class 1 drivers, an apprenticeship model for skills training, and implementation of unique on-farm licensing to ensure safe operation for authorized agriculture purposes.

TALENT DEVELOPMENT TASKFORCE

The Future of Talent.

An innovative and practical workforce project unlike any other in Canada.

Co-chaired by the Alberta Chambers of Commerce (ACC) and the Alberta Post-Secondary Network (APSN), the Talent Development Task Force brings together the province’s business community and top educational institutions to help students be career ready and start businesses to contribute to a skilled Alberta workforce well into the future.

The three-year project, now entering its third year, is a stool built on three strategic legs: business; post-secondary institutions; and government.

Funded by PrairiesCan; Alberta Jobs, Economy and Trade; and Mitacs, the project will help align post-secondary programming to the needs of employers. It is developing a strategy to allow employers to connect with post-secondary students across Alberta to form a mutually beneficial relationship that will not only help individual students and businesses flourish but promote economic growth province-wide.

Productivity, Affordability, Innovation, Oh My!

At our annual Hill Day, we focused on critical topics such as AI, productivity, housing affordability, clean energy, and advocating for strategic investments and innovative approaches.

Joined by members from across the country, we held important meetings with key government figures to discuss Canada's future path.

We want to thank Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for joining our President and CEO, Perrin Beatty, in a dynamic discussion, partaking of a Q&A session with our members and sharing valuable insights ahead of today's budget announcement.

Our Take on Budget 2024

As the federal budget is set to be released today, we continue to urge the government to work with businesses to drive economic growth, foster job creation and improve the quality of life for all Canadians.

"Our priority is not new taxes, more regulations or anti-business rhetoric," says Perrin Beatty. "If the government discourages investors, they will seek opportunities elsewhere."
