This Sunday, April 30th: 5th Sunday!

This Sunday is a 5th Sunday; we'll have Sunday School at 9:15 AM, One Combined Worship Service at 10:30 AM, and a luncheon/fellowship to follow worship. Lunch will consist of hard and soft tacos, chips and salsa, various sides, assorted desserts, and coffee, tea, & lemonade. Everything will be provided for you, and everyone is welcome. Please plan to join us!

Travis begins a new sermon series this week, and this Sunday's sermon is "A Forgiver," based in Genesis 33:1-11. We'll also hear from the Cherub and Sonshine Choirs this Sunday. If you cannot join us in person, tune in through our website or Facebook group page. All usual Sunday afternoon and evening activities are scheduled, as well.

JOY Seniors

You're invited to sign up for our day trip to explore downtown Roanoke Saturday, May 6th. We will leave VBC at 9:30 AM and ride as a group to downtown Roanoke, where you can plan your own adventure around the many shops/restaurants, Farmer's Market, Market Building, Center in the Square, Mast General Store, a trolley ride, and of course the Strawberry Festival. We will depart downtown at 2:30 PM. Please sign up at the JOY table as soon as possible so that we will know which bus to take.

If you have signed up for our Christmas in July outing to Wohlfahrt Haus Thursday, July 13th to see the matinee play "A Sanders Family Christmas," please also make sure that you have paid the $60 fee. Your payment is your reservation. A wait list is now available. Checks can be made to VBC JOY Seniors.

The next JOY Senior Luncheon is May 23rd at noon in the gym. Our menu is chicken salad croissant, pasta salad, tossed salad, dessert, and water. Cost for lunch is $10/person. Our program is First Aid & Fall Prevention by Brian Clingenpeel. Please sign up at the JOY Senior table.

Preteens

If you are going to Passport Kids Camp this summer, the final $100 payment is due May 1st. Please also return the VBC Medical Release form and this year's Passport Kids Camp form. Also, stay tuned for another fun Preteens outing planned for May!

Thrive Youth Ministry

The volleyball season is rapidly coming to a close, with the tournament scheduled in just a couple of weeks. We've had a great time with all our players this year!

We are planning on a regular schedule this Sunday, including supper and Extreme.

Final payment of $100 is due by May 1st if you're planning to go on our Nashville mission trip. We still have space if you have not yet signed up!

PGA Youth Camp has been scheduled at Camp Alta Mons for July 28th - 30th. The cost is $90 for the weekend. Registration forms will be available soon.

Vinton Baptist Church Hope Center

Cathy Abraham, a Licensed Professional Counselor, is offering free, private, confidential counseling for our VBC family (members and regular attenders). Cathy focuses on marriage and families, co-parenting through divorce and separation, adults and children having gone through childhood trauma, and general life stressors for ages 13 and up. Appointments can be made for Tuesdays at 11:00, 12:00, 1:00, or 2:00 PM. Sessions will take place at the church, and you can make an appointment by calling the church office at 540-343-7685.

Looking Ahead

Please note that on Sunday, June 4th there will be no morning worship services or Sunday School due to the road closures and traffic/congestion associated with the Ironman competition here in our area. Instead, we will worship together at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 31st. Everyone is welcome to join us in the sanctuary that evening if you are able. While we will worship in person May 31st, we will record and broadcast that service via our website on Sunday morning, June 4th.

Blessing Box

The following items are needed for the Blessing Box: pancake mix (any kind), syrup, and liquid dish soap. Donations can be dropped off in the appropriate bin at the Missions Tables. Thank you!

Congratulations to Ray & Holly Graham on the birth of their grandson, Elliott Ray, April 18th, weighing 8 lbs., 4 ozs. and measuring 20". Thomas & Emilee Graham are the proud parents.

Graduate Bibles

Bibles for our high school seniors will be available in the Welcome Center by this weekend so that you may mark your favorite verse, include words of encouragement, and direct our graduates in their path. Please take a few moments to write in these Bibles and support our graduates through this tradition.

Other Graduate Info

Graduate Recognition Sunday is May 21st. If you or someone in your family is graduating from high school or college this year, please email kim@vintonbaptistchurch.org or call the church office at 540-343-7685 to let us know the following: name of graduate, school, any special honors, type of degree, future plans (for example, if/where they will attend college or military service, or what career they are pursuing), and whether they will be able to attend worship May 21st (and which service.) Even if your graduate cannot attend May 21st, we would still like their information so that we can recognize them in The Witness.

Please also note that Vinton Baptist will host the WBHS Baccalaureate at 6:00 PM on May 21st.

Bible Reading Plan

It's hard to believe that we're almost through Deuteronomy in our Bible reading plan. We've got a couple catch-up days coming up the end of this week, so if you're behind, just keep reading.

I thought for this week it might be helpful to have some audiovisual feedback on our reading. Click this link for an overview of Deuteronomy from the BibleProject. It's less than 8 minutes long, and the last couple of minutes deal specifically with the final chapters of Deuteronomy. I hope this video is helpful!

Happy reading! Click here for a printable copy of our Bible reading plan.

"Check out" these new books in the library:

  • Son of Man by Charles Martin
  • Clinging to Hope by Charles Swindoll
  • Second Time Around by Melody Carlson
  • Final Vows by Karen Kingsbury
  • Dark of Night by Colleen Coble

Can You Help with Children's Church?

We are in need of teachers and helpers for Children's Church for each service every Sunday. If you can volunteer, please click here to sign up. Dates are available from now through the summer. If you'd like to help, but you're not sure what's required, please reach out to Whitney.

Thank you, Mollie and Cindy and the Vinton Baptist Church people, for your visit and the nice box of goodies and cards. I appreciate your visit and thoughts very much.

Love, Audrey Ferguson
