DUES MEASURE PASSES

During the Nebraska-Iowa District House of Delegates meeting on Aug. 5 in LaVista, Nebraska, the delegates approved a $15 district dues increase. Effective Oct. 1, 2023, annual district dues are $40.

Per District Bylaws, the dues measure required a 2/3 vote for passage. The written ballot vote was 88.5 percent in support.

Kiwanis International had also proposed a dues increase during the June International Convention but it did not receive the super majority vote required for passage. International dues and fees for the coming year remain $82. (KI Dues & Fees: $52, dues; $8, Kiwanis magazine/publications; $18, member liability insurance; $4, directors and officers insurance)

Clubs should prepare their annual renewal invoices for members considering these combined $122 dues and fees for district and international.

Reminder to clubs: Sept. 30 is the final day to enter a new member for 2022-2023. Oct. 10 is the final day to remove members who will not be renewing for 2023-2024. Kiwanis International will bill renewals based upon the clubs' Oct. 11 rosters.

ONE MORE CLE SCHEDULED

All presidents, secretaries, treasurers and membership chairs for the Kiwanis year beginning Oct. 1 should attend Club Leadership Education this summer.

Even if you are repeating in the office, it is important to get reminders about duties and also find out the latest updates/changes from the district and international levels.

Taking either the district or international sessions counts for training and gives your club credit. (If you have already attended one this summer, you are covered for this year.)

The district has one more virtual CLE upcoming.

CHILDREN'S FUND NEWS

It’s time for clubs to start working on budgets for next year. A lot of clubs put the Children’s Fund in their annual budget. That helps because it’s already accounted for, and the treasurer can just send the check without board action.

APPLAUSE!

Congratulations to this year's District Convention Award Winners, and their nominating clubs!!!

NEW QR CODE FOR MEMBERSHIP APP

Due to unbeknownst changes on the Kiwanis International website the first week in August, the QR Code for the New Member Application Yard Signs handed out at the convention is no longer valid. The fillable PDF form was moved to a different URL on Kiwanis.org, making that page inaccessible.

The New Member Application Form is now available on the District website and a new QR Code has been created. Clubs receiving yard signs at the convention (or previously printing a sign from the district website) may copy/print the new QR and cover the old one. The sign with the new QR is also accessible HERE.:

FOUNDATION REPORT

By Jody Melcher, Nebraska-Iowa District Foundation president

It was so good to see many of you at District Convention. Thanks to those of you who came to our District Foundation breakout session. I hope you found it helpful. I also want to thank all of you who bought tickets for the Basket Raffle. There was $2,489 raised for the District Foundation!

This is an update of the Nebraska-Iowa District Foundation quarterly meeting on July 19, so you are up to date with what the Foundation has been up to.

Our first order of business was to approve grants. We had four grants submitted and approved all of them, some for the amount asked, others for less. We had $16,006 left to spend on grants for this last cycle. The requests were for over $23,000. Grants funded are as follows.

1.     Hull Kiwanis Club for kitchen appliances in the Bright Star Daycare kitchen.

2.    Ottumwa Kiwanis Club for signage on their Funnel Cake Trailer

3.    Spirit Lake Kiwanis Club for playground equipment at a new park

4.    Southeast Polk funding for a STEM Classroom at Delaware Elementary

These projects will have an impact on the lives of many children!

We discussed the Van Duling gift to the Foundation that was meant to help children go to Camp OK and other experiences that help develop leadership skills in youth. With Camp OK no longer happening, it was moved, seconded and approved that this year we use the past three years’ interest to offer a $50 rebate to the first 60 2023 registrations for Key Leader, with a limit of one per club. In subsequent years, the interest will be limited to 20 per year with

“rollover” from past years. This item will be added to the General Fund.

By-laws updates were presented at the Annual Meeting Aug. 4.

Our next round of grant requests is due Sept. 1. Forms are in the District Foundation section of the District Website.
