Good Sam

Ministry Fair &

Open House

August 20 & 27

9:30am

Have you ever wondered about all the different Ministries at Good Sam? On August 20 & 27, you’ll have a chance to learn more about all the ways that we serve each other, our community, and the world! We will be hosting a Ministry Fair on those two Sundays in Henslee Hall during the 9:30am Formation time. You will be able to learn more about Worship and Formation on the 20th and about Ministries focused on Prayer, Giving, and Serving on the 27th. Sign-up sheets for all Ministries will be available both days and online. An updated Guide to Participation will be available soon to guide you as your prayerfully consider putting your talents to work in our community.

In addition, we'll be having a wonderful Open House downstairs for children and youth. Drop by and learn about plans for our young folks during the program year!

Family Promise Fundraiser:

Pasta & Bluegrass

THANK YOU!

Thank you so much for your great support of the Pasta and BlueGrass fundraiser for Family Promise. I have enough volunteer servers, cake makers and cookie bakers. I am so thankful for each of you. If you haven't yet bought a ticker, please do so from the link below. Even if you can't attend, you can support this organization and these families suffering homelessness, but purchasing a ticket or two. See the link below to purchase.

Thanks. - Ann

Book Group for September

We will be meeting Thursday, September 7 at 6:00 PM, in Henslee Hall.

The book we are reading is Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano. This remarkable story is about a 12-year-old boy named Edward, who miraculously survives a plane crash that takes the lives of all other passengers, including his entire family. After this heartbreaking

ordeal, he has to find the resilience to create a new life for himself.

The book for October, Coroner's Dance has been written by one of our parishioners, Dr. Greg Phelps. He will be attending the meeting, and we are having a potluck dinner to celebrate this special occasion.

  • November: He Called Me Sister by Suzanne Craig Robinson (subject to review - this may change)
  • December: I Am, I Am, Am by Maggie O'Farrell
  • January: Passengers by Thomas Foxworth (brother of member Merry Foxworth) and Michael Laurence.

Please bring what you'd like to eat and drink to the meeting. New members are always welcome, even if they don't attend Good Sam! If you have any questions, please call Kathy Gray at 423-379-0091 or email [email protected].

Cash in the Plate

The Cash In The Plate for this coming Sunday goes to Books for Kondoa.

Sophia Timmerman-Pelensky was a pilgrim to Kondoa this past June. Sophia is working on her Gold Award for Girl Scouts and she wants to earn money to buy books for the primary school in Kondoa (St. Peter and St. Paul School). If enough funds are raised, books will be purchased for the secondary school in Chemba, which hopefully will open this fall sometime. St. Peter and St. Paul School has added a grade per year since it started; Christian and Muslim children learn in a positive, loving environment. There is just one textbook per classroom generally; the goal is to have a book per child to use. Each book costs $6 so any donation will go a long way. Please prayerfully consider a donation to aid this project as well as supporting a pilgrim who is working hard for the Gold Award.

You can make an online cash plate gift to the cash in the plate on the Good Sam online giving page. There is an option on the giving page to give to the "Cash in Plate". As always, you may also send a check to Good Samaritan. Please put "Books/Kondoa" in the memo line.
