Outreach Recovery Ministries continue to grow at St. Mary’s

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

As part of our mission to provide healing and supportive community spaces, we are thrilled to share the growth and success of our recovery ministries here at St. Mary's. Our commitment to these programs underscores the core of our faith—offering compassion and a helping hand to those in need.

Expanding Recovery Programs

Every week we host several 12 Step groups, providing crucial support for individuals in recovery:

Monday Evening NA (Narcotics Anonymous): A vital gathering for those seeking support in their journey towards recovery from addiction.

Tuesday Evening AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) and Thursday Evening AA Big Book: These meetings provide a strong foundation for sobriety and spiritual growth, focusing on the principles and teachings of the AA Big Book.

Summer Offerings: Recognizing the need for continued support through the summer months, we offer additional meetings: Friday morning Al-Anon and two Tuesday evening Al-Anon meetings, including a beginners group and a discussion group. These meetings are essential for family members and friends of alcoholics, helping them to understand and develop coping strategies through shared experiences.

A Celebrated Success: Women’s Al-Anon Retreat

This past weekend, we hosted the Women’s Al-Anon Retreat, an event that proved to be a resounding success. The retreat provided a nurturing and empowering environment for women to share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs. The sense of community and mutual support that blossomed during this event was truly heartwarming and a testament to the strength and resilience of those in attendance. I was humbled to provide both Spirit Direction and Officiate a Recovery Mass in our Chapel for all in attendance. I look forward to this retreat taking place once again next year.

Our Continued Commitment

The success of our recovery ministries and special events like the Women’s Al-Anon Retreat motivates us to continue these vital services. We see firsthand the positive impact these gatherings have on individuals and our community as a whole. As we move forward, St. Mary’s remains dedicated to expanding our support and resources for all who are navigating the path of recovery.

We invite everyone in our community to join us in these efforts. Whether you are in recovery, know someone who is, or simply wish to offer support, you are invaluable.

With gratitude and hope,

Mo. Allison+

Together, let us continue to support one another, fostering a community of recovery, resilience, and renewal at St. Mary's.

Bishop DeDe Duncan-Probe nominated by petition for election as presiding bishop

The Episcopal Church Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop (JNCPB) announced today that the Rt. Rev. DeDe Duncah-Probe, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Central New York, has been nominated through its petition process to stand for election as the 28th presiding bishop at General Convention in June 2024.

Biography

The committee said that Duncan-Probe was vetted through the same process of background and reference checks as all nominees, as required by Canon I.2.1(d)(4).

The election will take place on June 26 during The Episcopal Church’s triennial General Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

“We are grateful that the Holy Spirit continues to guide the church’s discernment process towards electing our next presiding bishop,” said Canon Dr. Steve Nishibayashi of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, who co-chairs the committee with the Rt. Rev. Mark Lattime, bishop of Alaska.

The Rev. Maureen-Elizabeth Hagen, a deacon who chairs the nominations subcommittee, added that committee members hope that Episcopalians will join them in praying for the nominees, their families, and their dioceses. “Our discernment has been grounded in prayer since we began meeting in 2021,” she said.

The canons limited the petition process to any bishop or deputy to the 81st General Convention. The petition process opened from Wednesday, April 3, at 12:01 a.m. EDT, and closed at 11:59 p.m. EDT Monday, April 15.

The committee’s slate of nominees, announced on April 2, includes:

The Rt. Rev. J. Scott Barker

Diocese of Nebraska

The Rt. Rev. Daniel G. P. Gutiérrez

Diocese of Pennsylvania

The Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe

Diocese of Northwestern Pennsylvania

Diocese of Western New York

The Rt. Rev. Robert Wright

Diocese of Atlanta
