Thank you to everyone who helped ready the church and grounds for Holy Week and Easter. Inside the florals honored loved ones; outside, David Foster's crew once again filled the urns with seasonal beauty. Our altar guild, buildings and grounds crew, choir and musicians, ushers, hospitality group, Mary Ames and Nancy Silva who packed and hid 300 Easter eggs, parishioners and visitors, all contributed in some way to make this a joyous week!

America’s policy of producing cheap food at all costs has long hobbled small independent farmers, ranchers, and chefs. Worried for their survival, trailblazing food writer Ruth Reichl reaches out across political and social divides to uncover the country’s broken food system and the innovators risking it all to transform it.

St. John’s Episcopal Church Sandwich Caring for Creation Committee is hosting a screening of this eye-opening documentary on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 7:00 PM in the parish hall behind the main sanctuary at 159 Main Street, Sandwich. CARING FOR CREATION

DAILY LIVING PRACTICES TO CARE FOR CREATON

During April, May, and June we focus on the importance of earth/soil in our Caring for Creation section. During these weeks may the spirit of Easter helps us undertake little resurrections in the broken parts of ourselves and the world. We commit ourselves to new ways of living that help heal our planet.

Creation Quote for your Meditation

One gram of soil (a quarter of a tablespoon) can harbour up to 10 billion organisms - that's more than the number of people living on the planet!

Only about 1% of the microorganisms found in soil have been identified so far - our soils are one of the largest reservoirs of microbial diversity on Earth; this includes many single-celled organisms, such as bacteria and archaea, as well as certain fungi too. There's so much about the organisms that live in our soils that we still don't understand, and many think that further research could lead to important developments in agricultural, medical and climate sciences.

95% of food production relies on the soil – healthy topsoil is vital to our existence on this planet, but we are losing topsoil at an alarming rate - between 10 and 40 times faster than it's formed.

Soils store more carbon than the atmosphere, and all of the world’s plants and forests combined, which means that soil is one of our most important weapons in the fight against climate change!
