At the end of the Friday eve Pride Shabbat, we sang a song titled, I Have a Voice by Elana Arian. Some people were very touched by it and came to me after the service to express how it affected them. The song’s lyrics remind us that we all have a voice, especially when change is needed. The lyrics make sure that we understand that our voices ARE POWERFUL! Happy to know that the song made a connection with a lot of people.
Here is a rendition of it, performed at Song Leaders Boot Camp 2020 by some very talented Jewish music artists - some of whom were highlighted in previous Cantor’s Picks! For instance, you might recognize, Elana Jagoda from our recent exploration of her touching Oseh Shalom and then there’s Laurie Akers, who we saw singing in the enthralling Shul Sisters’ video way back at the beginning of our Cantor’s Pick collection.
Chava Mirel might be also recognized from the moving video we recently watched of Joey Weisenberg’s Lincoln’s Nigun. We can see the joyous face of Chava singing alongside the lead singer Rabbi Deborah Sacks Mintz in Lincoln’s Nigun.
