Memorial Day 2023

Memorial Day 2023

Now, more than ever, when our country is in such disarray and there are so many concerns regarding corruption, power, pride, persuasion, ethics, and hidden agendas, we need to stay committed to the truth that God has declared. “There may well come times when our government takes a path we cannot in good conscience follow, and we must stand where God stands. “ (Mark Twain)  For HE is the one who remains pure and in control of all things and has power and knowledge of all things.  Today as we celebrate Memorial Day, and the fearless warriors that fought for the freedom that we enjoy everyday in this great country.  They gave their best and many sacrificed the ultimate sacrifice; life itself.

There were left with physical wounds, some that were able to be healed while others had more tragic bodily harm that effected their very ability to live an independent lifestyle.  And surely there were pains and traumas that effected the mental state of these warriors; many lasting a lifetime.  War is a grueling battle between two opposing sides; and the soldiers are the brave ones, who set out to unselfishly fight for something they passionately believed in. The question here, I have to ask myself, is how passionate am I, as a civilian? Am I willing to stand up in the midst of adversity? Am I willing to stand tall and be a warrior for the Lord and fight for what I have learned through his word, and his example? Am I willing to serve others unselfishly, and sacrificially....my answer: sometimes but not often enough for sure.

When these patriotic holidays come about, I know I am guilty of taking them too lightly; for I have never been in a situation to endure such hardships, discipline and passion for a country whose freedom, values and fairness were such strong defining characteristics. (Those characteristics seem to be threatened each day.) The men and women who have bravely fought over these many years, and many who are still fighting today, deserve to be honored for their courage, willingness and resolve to go into combat on behalf of us, the people of our nation. And we are to honor and give tribute to them not just this day but throughout our time on this earth.  Their families deserve recognition and appreciation too, for they have sacrificed so much on their end as well.

This is our time, more than ever, to lift our nation up in PRAYER to God who is overseeing us and has the power to intercede in every way to help us fight for His truth and his ways.

With God there is nothing that is impossible, so my prayer is that Christ will help us be/stay committed to God’s ways and  not waiver and be distracted by worldly suppositions.“Our real purpose on this earth; to not only honor those who, in uniform, have fought and died for the purpose of our American values, namely freedom but to look around and be aware of what we can do here and now to continue the fight for a strong and free nation, under GOD, and serve this earthly place through HIS eternal principles; faith, truth, trust, obedience and love.”  (Mark Twain)

We lift up prayer requests often for family and friends and wisdom and guidance etc., but how often do we lift up this nation. Our one nation under GOD. If all of us united in a quick prayer each day, just a one liner reminding God we are trusting him and seeking his intervention, don't you think that would be a good start in fighting the battle that is before us? Lets do it!

Still today Lee Greenwoods song about the USA remains my favorite patriotic song and I am tempted each time I hear it to stand with my hand over heart and give God thanks for letting me live in this country.

"God Bless The USA"

If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life

And I had to start again with just my children and my wife

I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today

'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free

And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me

And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today

'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land

God bless the USA

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee

Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA

Well, there's pride in every American heart

And it's time we stand and say

That I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free

And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me

And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today

'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land

God bless the USA

And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free

And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me

And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today

'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land

God bless the USA

I thank God this day for the many soldiers whose lives have been taken as they fought ferociously for freedom and for the warriors who still are fighting today.

May we not only remember them and honor them but be warriors ourselves in our neighborhoods, in our schools, in our churches, in the grocery store, on the golf course, in the workplace etc. and continue to be bold and speak the truth and fight for the Godly values God has given us.

May we, too, be willing and faithful each day to serve others sacrificially and allow God the reigns to guide our lives. Amen

Hope you have a safe and happy holiday. God Bless the USA!

Praise God wherever you are or whatever situation he has allowed you to be in...for his Glory will shine through!
