At their March meeting, COM welcomed a new minister member to the presbytery. Annie Franklin Arvin serves as the director of admissions at Union Presbyterian Seminary where she works with prospective students. Annie is originally from Western North Carolina and is a lifelong Presbyterian. She graduated from UPSem in 2018 and was ordained as an associate pastor in southeast Georgia. When Annie is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family outside, trying new recipes, and playing ball with the family dog.
New Boundaries Training Event Added | A new in-person boundaries training session has been scheduled for April 24. The training is 1:30-4:30 p.m. at South Plains Church in Keswick. Registration is open through April 21. | Ministers, educators, commissioned ruling elders, and ruling elders serving on presbytery committees have two options to fulfill the new boundaries training requirement. One is to take the presbytery-approved online course, Clergy Ethics and Congregational Boundaries. The second way is to take in-person courses that will be offered periodically by the presbytery. The presbytery is committed to regularly offering the boundary training at a variety of locations and dates. Training outside of these two options is not approved. The deadline to complete an in-person or virtual training is May 1.
Free Fun Day at Camp Hanover Coming Up
Encourage your congregation members to enjoy an afternoon of free activities at Camp Hanover on April 21. The annual Camp Fun Day lets guests of all ages experience fun in nature. Activities include archery, campfire cooking, canoeing, climbing wall, crafts, tours, and nature walks. This event is open to everyone. It is especially helpful to families who are considering enrolling a child in summer camp.
Resources to Plan Your Celebration of Older Adults | The first Sunday in May, May 5, is Older Adult Sunday. Many congregations celebrate older adults for the full week following Older Adult Sunday; others make this a monthlong event. Check out resources, including a worship service, to plan your activities from POAMN, the Presbyterian Older Adult Ministries Network. POAMN publishes an annual guide to ministry for older adults. The 2024 edition is available on their website. Members receive a free print copy by mail.
