HIGH BEAMS

Hello Everyone...

As an old guy I'm one of those that worries that some of the big sacrifices that have been made by many for those of us alive in the Western World may have mostly faded into the dust of time. Please join me in this weekend that launches summer fun to take a moment or two and remember those who believed deeply in democracy and were willing to die for it.

As a humble Porsche enthusiast it's not my place to preach politics here (or anything else!) but the present combination of Memorial Day and Rome burning while our leaders bicker is hard to watch. It brings out the fight in me. As a child of the 60's, I remember the expression "You're either part of the problem or part of the solution" and I desperately wish to be part of the solution in my remaining time of this troubled orb.

I have a narrow sphere with limited influence but I can at least strive to part of the solution in that sphere. Again, it's limited and perhaps trivial in the big picture, but I try hard to run Audette Collection at a high ethical standard. I try to treat people the way I want to be treated. I try to price things fairly. I try to find the best products for my fellow Porsche travelers. I try to do the highest quality job that I'm capable of in all of my restorations.

Toward that end, Audette Collection has a new, simple mission statement: "Trying to be part of the solution".

Have a wonderful weekend with your family and friends!

Your striving air-cooled Porsche enthusiast,

John

P.S. Please forgive the highly personal nature of this newsletter but I have some debts to repay.

...we owe them - and many, many others...

Commander Victor B. Blurton, United States Navy

This is my father-in-law. He finished first in his class in what was colloquially called the "90 Day Wonder" program at Annapolis which was established because the Navy had a shortage of officers at the onset of WWII. He went on to command ships in the Pacific and was present at all the major conflicts. He lost one ship to a Japanese submarine but suffered no fatalities after being the last man off. He was awarded a number of the Navy's highest awards which he never told anyone about. My wife and it found the medals in his personal effects after he died. I refer to Vic as "Old Leather", my highest expression of respect.

Dr. Audette was my father. He graduated from the University of Vermont Medical School just in time to be sent to Oak Ridge, Tennessee for his internship. Oak Ridge was a top secret city built in the mountains of Tennessee as a site to develop the atomic bomb. He treated patients for conditions of which he had no knowledge of, most likely radiation burns and sickness. I think it troubled him for the rest of his life.

Lillian G. Audette, Oakridge, Tennessee "Calutron Girl"

My mother, Lillian Audette, also worked in Oakridge as one of the Calutron Girls. She sat at huge machines turning dials and had no idea what they were doing.

...new collection: low cost upgrades & accessories...

...part of the solution...

We're all familiar with certain entities in our lives that lack the discipline to control their budget. Which means that many of us are watching our budgets a little more closely these days given the uncertainly of what they have created for us.

But we have lives to live and we enjoy tinkering with our favorite cars. To help our fellow enthusiasts a bit we have trimmed prices as much as possible on many of our lower cost upgrade and accessory items and put together a list that fits a smaller budget.

To help things along a bit more we are marking them all down by another 10%. Just add low-cost elbow grease and stay busy!

...customer comments...

John....

I just received my 1973 911T back from the restoration shop. They advised me that they used your turn signal housings as replacements for my original Italian specifications. Thank you for keeping these cars on the road!
