8/80 SPOTLIGHT:

RICHARD KRUGEL

For 80 years, Richard Krugel has celebrated his birthday on Valentine’s Day. The sentiment is not lost on us. Richard is a sweet and kind man who has spent most of his life volunteering in the Detroit Jewish community. He and his wonderful wife, Sally, have been honored for their volunteerism on many occasions. He feels strongly about shining a light on the good work that Jewish Senior Life of Metropolitan Detroit has accomplished since 1907. JSL is grateful we can honor Richard this year during our 30th Annual Celebration of Eight Over Eighty, The Tikkun Olam Awards.

FRIDAY FUNNY

SHABBAT SHALOM

Rabbi Dovid S. Polter, Community Chaplain

I Owe You

Upon entering the activity room where seniors were gathered for my weekly program, I overheard the program director call out: A.E.I.O.U. The IOU made me think of what "I Owe You" - the residents.

In life, we would be far happier and more fulfilled if our attitude would be IOU - I Owe You. Love and kindness are more about giving than taking. Instead of taking, give to another from the depths of your heart and soul. See what giving to others will do for you. You owe this to your soul!

L’Chaim!

More than half of the residents who live in our JSL communities are considered low income or indigent. Your philanthropic support is essential to maintaining programs and services to help these older adults age with dignity and with a better quality of life. In addition, your gifts could significantly support the shortfall in the cost of pharmacy bills which are so vital to the residents’ wellness. We are so grateful for your generous gifts to Jewish Senior Life.
