Mustafah Abdulaziz | Water

Photographer Mustafah Abdulaziz has dedicated more than a decade of his life to the compelling narrative of climate change's profound impact on humanity. Through his large-scale, expansive installations he has documented international issues of water access.

Reflecting Impressions: The 19th National Exhibition of the American Society of Marine Artists

A collaborative exhibition by multimedia artists Karen Goulet (Ojibwe) and Monique Verdin (Houma). These two artists are bound by a common river, united by the Mississippi or Misi-ziibi (“Big River” in Ojibwe).

Freshwater New Look Preview Party |
January 26 | 7 - 10pm (6:30pm doors) | $20
Start the new year off with a party not to be missed, and celebrate the opening of four new exhibitions at MMAM. With curator-led exhibition previews, staged conversations with our visiting exhibiting artists, a live gallery performance by Jada Brown, and an artist-inspired dancehall to close out the night, this is the event to kick off 2024!

Freshwater New Look Weekend |
January 27 - 28, 2024 | $5 Admission
Party. Tour. Explore. Watch. Enjoy. Along with the New Look Preview Party, this weekend offers many opportunities to explore the new exhibitions, interact with the artists, and watch artist demonstrations. Admission to the galleries is just $5 this weekend (admission is always free for members), and some programs(*) require an additional ticket. Space is limited for certain programs so register now!

First Wednesday of the Month

Programming for people living with memory loss and their care partners. SPARK! programs offer participants an opportunity to enhance their quality of life through social engagement, mental stimulation, and communication. We aim to help shift the focus from the deficiencies that are often associated with memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias to the rich and satisfying experiences that are possible. Space is limited and registration is required.

Programming for our littlest art lovers. Kick of 2024 with the kiddos in your life with this kid-friendly discovery day in the galleries. Expect to spend time exploring in the galleries, enjoying opportunities for free play and socializing with other families! This month we are creating paper luminaries inspired by Kristian Brevik’s exhibition, and making colored air dry clay sculptures while we think about the artworks in Re/Framing The View: Nineteenth-century American Landscapes.

Art is for everyone! With $1 admission for all, this is a fun and lively day to visit the museum for first-time visitors and experienced museum-goers alike. Inspired by MMAM's current exhibition Across a Wide Ocean: Remarkable Stories about the Origins of Identity, the theme of this Seasonal Saturday is The Most Beautiful Thing. Enjoy wandering the galleries on your own, or join a tour, listen to live music, try your hand at art-making, or visit one of our community partners. Bingo Overboard, everyone’s favorite search-and-find game, is always available - just don’t forget to pick up your prize!

After exploring the new exhibition in the literary arts gallery Across a Wide Ocean: Remarkable Stories about the Origins of Identity, take home one of the books to share the story with your family and friends. Beginning January 26, The 1619 Project: Born on the Water by Nikole Hannah-Jones and Renée Watson and illustrated by Nikkolas Smith (Penguin Random House, 2021); and The Most Beautiful Thing by Kao Kalia Yang, illustrated by Khoa Le (Lerner Publishing, Carolrhoda Books, 2020) will be available in the MMAM shoppe.
