Community Theatre Costumers are Criminally Underappreciated

By: Anthony Piccione, Onstageblog.com

Introduction by: Dawn Farrell

ITA Community Theatre Representative

Black Hills Community Theatre

Community theatre costumers deserve more respect and recognition!

We all know the most central creative roles in any theatrical production. There is the playwright, who is the prime artist responsible for creating a show to produce. There is the director, who – after reading the script and interpreting it – creates his or her own unique vision for the show, and then is responsible for executing it.

All-State 2025 Production Team Prepares for Auditions

By: J.R. Willard-Rose & Britnee Kenyon,

All-State 2025 Producers

Submitted by: Michelle Bayer,

ITA Secondary Representative School Theatre Rep.

It’s that time of year again. Pre-Production planning for the 2025 All-State is already well underway. We are so thrilled to be bringing The Prom to the festival. When Broadway’s brassiest loudest, but now fading stars hear a student is sidelined from a small-town Indiana prom – and the press is involved – they are ready to kick-ball-change the world. It is a powerful story about standing up for what’s right and making sure that everyone is always visible - a fitting connection to Executive Director Brandon Lewis’ festival theme for 2025 of “Be Seen”.

Into the ‘Babble Lab’

With Autumn Ness

By: Shantez Tolbut, Children's Theatre Co.

"AMERICAN THEATRE"

Introduction by: Chris Holling,

ITA CD/TYA Representative

“There’s such a fantastical feel to it. Amid all these mishaps with the letters, we get this beautiful sound poetry showing how she learns to let them free. The kids get the beauty of the visuals and the parents get the message: Accidents and mistakes can be miracles and significant discoveries in science. We want to show children that you don’t know until you try, and that magnificent things come out of play and exploration.” - Autumn Ness about "Babble Lab," her new children’s show at CTC through April 14

High-Quality Headshots Aren't Essential for College Theatre Auditions

By: Chris Peterson, On Stage Blog

Intro by: Steven House

ITA College/University Theatre Representative

In this article Chris Peterson ruminates on what do colleges and universities actually need in an audition headshot. "When it comes to college theatre auditions, there's a common misconception that high-quality headshots are a prerequisite for success. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. While headshots can certainly make a positive impression, their quality is not the be-all and end-all of audition success."

"In the almost two decades that I've worked in college theater auditions, I have never encountered an educator who places the quality of a headshot from high school students at such a high level. I have never seen the quality of a headshot or the size of the paper determine whether or not a student is admitted into a program."

Why is the headshot the barrier to a higher education in this art they love? remaining!"
