This Sunday

Lent: The long breath that can bring us to an Easter hope.

We put that line on the sign out front. Don't know if it will make sense to passers-by, but perhaps for a few it will bring on an auto-response - like a yawn that spreads - a deep breath in the movement of their day.

This is Christianity's 40 holy days, which coincide with Islam's 30 holy days of Ramadan , and Judaism's high holy days Purim and Passover. Surely all this holiness will make a difference to our city. It can't hurt.

Susan will offer a reflection to set the stage, and possibly your frame of mind, for the coming days. Peter Baylis will sing a song you'll instantly recognize (we think you will). And we'll start it all with a hymn you definitely know. Take a deep breath and sing it loud: the holy sound of Amazing Grace.

See you Sunday ... on one hour less sleep. Coffee will be waiting.

Pancake Supper - A HUGE Thank You!

Thanks to your spirited generosity, the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper was a wonderful night of Saint Andrew’s community in support Phoenix Youth Programs.

Over 200 meals were (gracefully and speedily!) served by the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts of 36th Halifax!

Thank you to all who helped by mobilizing volunteers, setting up and cleaning up, and preparing the delicious dinner.

And thank you to all you enjoyed pancakes with us! Thank you for joining us, and bringing your friends and family with you.

International Women's Day is March 8

The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 is Strength in Every Story.

This year’s theme highlights the importance of amplifying the voices of all women, particularly those who continue to face barriers to success. Creating opportunities for women and girls unlocks their potential and drives innovation, supports Canada’s economy, and helps ensure a sustainable future for all.

Every woman’s story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of opportunity. This International Women’s Day, celebrate the women and girls in your life and share their stories.

Symphony Nova Scotia: Bach & Telemann Together

Saturday, March 8 at 7:30pm

Sunday, March 9 at 2pm

Even though Bach and Telemann lived at the same time, wrote in similar genres, and knew each other – they were born in the same year and their paths crossed many times – their musical styles differ.

Explore this contrast in a program that highlights why both composers remain impressive today, led by harpsichordist Steven Devine, best known for playing with the critically-acclaimed Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
