MESSAGE FROM FR. JEFF

Hello everybody!

Thank you for your prayers and support during my back surgery, recovery and rehab. Although not quite back 100%, I am doing really well! I will have a few more weeks of twice per week rehab and then about a month of once per week. Other than that, I am back to a full schedule and look forward to presiding and preaching at masses this Sunday for the 5th Sunday of Lent (and St. Patrick’s Day). My gratitude extends to those who have shouldered a heavier burden in my absence, including our other clergy, staff, and volunteers. I am blessed to be your pastor!

Our Lenten journey continues and I hope you will make plans to help us celebrate Holy Week and the Easter Triduum. Palm Sunday begins Holy Week on March 23/24. The following are additional opportunities:

  • Chrism Mass: March 26, 7:00 p.m., Cathedral of the Assumption (Renewal of priestly promises and blessing of sacred oil)
  • Holy Thursday: March 28, 7:00 p.m., St. Patrick (Washing of the feet and Eucharistic procession)
  • Good Friday: March 29, 7:00 p.m., St. Patrick (Veneration of the cross and communion service)
  • Easter Vigil: March 30, 8:30 p.m., St. Patrick (New fire and Christian initiation)
  • Easter Sunday, March 31, 8:30 and 11:00 a.m., St. Patrick (Resurrection)

We have also kicked off our stewardship renewal for upcoming fiscal year (July 1, 2024-June 30, 2025). You should have received your stewardship packet in the mail. Please call the parish office at 244-6083 if you need a hard copy or you can renew online HERE. Please take some time to pray about how you can share your gifts of time, talent and treasure and respond with your commitment on or before April 7. If you have any questions, please contact Lynne Marshall, Director of Engagement, at lmarshall@stpatlou.org. Thanks!

My prayers have been with you in a special way during my rehab. I continue to pray for you and trust that God will be with us all for the remainder of our Lenten journey to the celebration of the Easter mysteries and new life in Christ. God bless you!

Peace,

Fr. Jeff

Staff Spotlight

Joanie Hendricks

What is something people do not know about you?

I used to be a crime reporter which helped me gain a deep sense of empathy for people in difficult situations. I absolutely loved being able to tell people’s stories and make a positive difference through some of my investigative reporting. I also love crafting and used to have a T-shirt business. I love picking up new crafts and have done everything from graphic design to redesigning a classroom with my Cricut.

What is your favorite scripture or prayer and why?

Matthew 6:25-34

Someone once said worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair - it gives you something to do and uses your energy, but it doesn’t get you anywhere. Trusting in God when you’re facing life struggles is hard but it is also much more productive and encouraging than trying to take on life by yourself. You’re always getting somewhere positive with God. You just have to wait and see. Also, I love Mother Teresa and her beautiful way with words in “Do It Anyway.”

What do you love most about your ministry/serving at St. Patrick?

I absolutely love that I can use all my skills, both acquired and natural, to pour into this ministry and bring children closer to God. I sometimes struggled with Mass as a child and I want to help our children love our faith and understand how it applies to their lives, even now. Our faith is so unique and beautiful and I hope they learn how special it is to be a part of a family way beyond our measure

American Flag Collection

The Knights of Columbus will be at the church entrance prior to the masses on March 16-17 to collect American flags which have become faded or soiled and are no longer a fitting emblem of display. These flags will be retired in a dignified manner and used in a program to honor deceased American Veterans.

Fielding the Future

Our Celtic Athletic Ministry (CAM) and Concession Ministry are teaming up during the Lenten Fish Fry season to help raise funds to purchase a new walk-in freezer that serves many events and activities around campus. In addition, funds raised will help offset the cost of sporting equipment for student athletes and keep sports registration at an affordable rate for families. Check out the auction items and raffles on the link. Drawing for raffles ends on March 15.
