Physician Partners,

We are committed to keeping you informed on topics that impact your daily practice so you can continue to provide the best possible care for our patients. That's why each month we will publish an “APP Top 5” to support alignment and engagement on key priorities – along with tips and resources to best support you.

I will share the latest Top 5 each month in Key Messages. View the June slide that covers:

  • Vaccine fee schedule capitation performance
  • Reminder! 2023 mandatory education
  • Quality update
  • Condition Management Documentation Update
  • Utilization update

As always, thank you for your partnership.

More Practices Live on Epic Connect

On June 5, 11 APP aligned practices including 18 physicians went live on Epic Connect. This brings the total number to 46 practices including 102 physicians, covering over 18,900 attributed lives. Having our APP aligned practices on our instance of Epic helps us advance our population health work, supports care coordination across the network, and greatly enhances safety and quality through a single patient record. The remaining two go-lives in 2023 for Epic Connect will be in August and October.

Reminder: How Epic Connect Can Help Your Patients: Hear from Adebayo Bademosi, MD, family medicine physician from the Trinity PHO, about how implementing Epic Connect helped his practice improve their CI score. If you are interested in joining Epic Connect, reach out to the Epic Connect team for more details.

Supporting Your Practice

Claim filing to be required within 90 days: Currently, APP is processing claims allowing timely filing of 180 days from date of service. With the end of the COVID Public Health Emergency, Advocate Physician Partners (APP) will revert back to its historical timely filing rules of 90 days effective August 1. Claims with dates of service August 1 and forward will be subject to the 90 days timely filing rule. APP will reject any claim with a received date greater than 90 days from the date of service of August 1 and forward. If you receive a timely filing denial and want to dispute it, submit an appeal with proof that you submitted the claim within 90 days from date of service.

Mandatory Education reminder: If you’ve not yet completed your mandatory assignments, do so before the deadline of June 19 to maintain compliance. Learn more.

Pharmacy & Therapeutics May updates: Review the latest Pharmacy and Therapeutics ambulatory and regional committees’ decisions. View Summary.

Updated COVID bivalent vaccine is available: Effective immediately, we will begin administering the updated COVID bivalent vaccines to patients 6 months and older at specific Medical Group clinics and Aurora pharmacies. Patients can schedule their shot by contacting our Call Center at 866-443-2584 or calling their doctor’s office. See vaccine recommendations:

  • Only bivalent vaccine doses are authorized for use in the U.S. to protect against COVID.
  • A complete COVID vaccination for the general patient population, 6 years and older, is one bivalent dose regardless of monovalent vaccination history. Immunocompromised patients should consult with their doctor.
  • Children 6 months to 5 years still require two or three doses depending on the vaccine manufacturer.
  • Patients 65 and older are eligible for a second dose if their first bivalent dose was received at least four months ago.

Telehealth licensing requirements: The COVID Public Health Emergency is over, which means licensing requirements now revert to current state guidelines. Any clinician who provides care via telehealth must be licensed in the state where the patient is located at the time of the visit. Learn more.

ACL Labs Update: ACL Labs is no longer calling physicians and APCs on positive MRSA screening tests, VRE screening tests or clostridiodes (Clostridium) difficile tests. They will continue to send these results through Epic which can be viewed by patients on the LiveWell app. Learn more.

Blood supply is critically low: As summer begins, there is an increased concern about blood product availability. Consider donating and be very conservative with blood products. In stable patients, give one unit and check laboratory values before ordering a second. Register for an upcoming blood drive.
