May is Magnificent!

Hello, Knightdale! This month is off to an a-MAY-zing start. We've had some really special events, and there's so much more to come! I'm so excited about the many positive things going on around town. I wanted to share just a few things going on with our citizens and community.

Lessons in Leadership

I had an opportunity to be a part of the Leadership Raleigh program sponsored by the Raleigh Chamber. The recent class, "Class 45," spent time discovering the many professional facets of Wake County, including regional businesses and local government branches. It was an honor to have them come to visit the Town of Knightdale!

We met the group in two sessions, both at Wake Stone Corporation in Knightdale. I got a chance to talk about the great things happening with the Town Council and our business community, and I also discussed the future direction of the Town.

It's always great bringing more exposure to Knightdale, and I was honored to do so with a group of Wake County's top professional leaders. I want to send a special thank you to Bose Bratton, Vice President of Wake Stone Corporation, for the invitation, and for coordinating these sessions. Thanks also to my fellow panelists: State Representative James Roberson, Tom Oxholm, Executive Vice President of Wake Stone Corp, and Sam Bratton, Wake Stone Corporation President. A final thank you to Shana Overdorf for her work with Raleigh Chamber.

I'm expecting to hear great things about this Leadership Raleigh group!

Knightdale Business Leaders

Chat Over Coffee

Last month we invited members of our business community to Town Hall to have coffee with Town leaders and network, meet and discover more about the thriving business ecosystem we have here in Knightdale.

The event was hosted by our new Director of Community Relations, Rachel Morris. She introduced the new Town department and discussed how she and her team will help to support information distribution, as well as support local businesses.

We have such an outstanding community of entrepreneurs, managers and corporate partners here. It was wonderful to see many of them represented at this gathering discussing how we can all support each other to strengthen our collective economic goals. I look forward to getting everyone together again. This is how we "start something" in Knightdale!

Wake County Entrepreneurs SCORE Big!

I was recently asked to be on a panel at the first SCORE Raleigh Women's Business Roundtable!

SCORE is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). It provides a wide range of services to established and budding business owners, such as free mentoring, webinars, workshops and so much more.

This year's Roundtable theme was Educate, Empower and Equip. I discussed the value of competency as it relates to education, and it was a great conversation with the attendees. The keynote speaker was Wendy Coulter, CEO of the Hummingbird Creative Group and advocate for women in business.

It was a great event, and I'm glad I had the opportunity to be a part of such a strong network of businesswomen and entrepreneurs in Wake County!

Congresswoman Deborah Ross

Visits Knightdale!

Knightdale was fortunate to be chosen as the location for the Town Hall Meeting hosted by Congresswoman Deborah Ross. The event was an opportunity for any citizens to sit down and address any questions they had about our town or state to her. Though Congresswoman Ross held several virtual Town Hall events, she felt it important to come to Knightdale to have this meeting in-person.

It was a well-attended event, and everyone was so engaged with her. In fact, we didn't have time for all of the questions! I'm grateful that Congresswoman Ross wanted to come to Knightdale to sit down and talk with our citizens.

It is important for community members to be able to ask questions and get answers. We're grateful for all that Congresswoman Ross is doing for our district, and we look forward to having her back here again soon!

Upcoming Events

I hope you can join me at the following Town events!

Victory Ride to Cure Cancer

I hope you'll join me for the Victory Ride to Cure Cancer, presented by CBS 17, on Saturday, May 20. This event has raised $1.3 million dollars for cancer research so far, and this year it's being held in Knightdale for the FIRST TIME! We could really use more volunteers for this very worthy event, so please consider helping out!
