Mosquitoes near the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds have tested positive for West Nile virus. Humans, birds, horses and other mammals can be exposed to the virus via a bite from an infected mosquito. You can take these steps to limit exposure:

🦟 Limit outdoor activities at dusk and dawn

🦟 Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt and socks when mosquitoes are active.

🦟 Use an insect repellent containing DEET, Picardin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or para-menthane-diol.

FCS & General Fair Exhibit Information

NEW INFO from Shaylen

Hello FCS/GEN 4-H Members and Cloverbuds,

What an exciting time! The countdown is on for FCS/GEN judging day, MONDAY JULY 24! I wanted to get some helpful information to you in regards to judging day.

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE:

As you know the process has changed for interview scheduling and all families were able to schedule their own times in the Fair Entry system. Please see below for the link to interview times. We recommend that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time so that way you can get through the check-in process before being seated in the waiting area. Judging will take place in the Exhibition Hall B. Please see the map that Shaylen sent out attached to an email today, 6/30, if needed. If you didn’t sign up for an interview but summited entries by the deadline you will need to have projects dropped off by 8 AM at the morning so that judges can either judge them after they are done with interviews or if they have a break. Interviews are not mandatory only HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

PROJECTS:

Make sure that your projects are complete including your e-record with ALL SIGNATURES. Please be in contact with project leaders/organizational leaders ahead of time to get those necessary signatures. Also, please see attachment for fairbook if needed. Please make sure that poster boards are the CORRECT SIZE. Please see the BOARD REQUIREMENTS page right after page 110. It is marked page 3 but would be page 111. It is very important that you follow the size requirement! 4 feet wide x 3 feet tall.

FCS/GEN LETTER:

Please view letter that has been in recent e-newsletters in case you haven’t looked it over. You may click on the image above to view it.

DISPLAY:

The projects will be on display for the families and the public to view Thursday, July 27-Sunday, July 30. You will not be able to view prior to Thursday as the superintendents and display crew are finalizing details until that time. Please be patient and waiting until that time to see your projects. Please remember DO NOT TOUCH the projects or e-records. I don’t have a problem coming up and talking to members/families if I see that this is happening! They will be on display until 5 PM on Sunday, July 30 and then after that we will be prepping for release.

RELEASE:

Release is scheduled for Sunday, July 30 6 PM-7 PM. We need time from 5 PM-6 PM to get our release crew all organized and ready to go. There will be a certain process that you will need to follow so I will go over that once we have families there for release that evening. Please know if asked if projects can be released early I will decline that request. If you can’t pick up your projects then please have a club leader/family or family/friends pick up the projects. ALL projects will need to be picked up that night, even projects that qualified for state fair.

STATE FAIR FORM:

If your project(s) qualify for state fair there will be a purple state fair sticker on there. You will be able to pick up project judging comment sheets at the Fair 4-H/Public Competitions Office at the Fairgrounds. In those envelopes will be pink sheets that you will need to fill out (if qualified). It would be helpful to our 4-H team if you have those pink sheets turned into our office at the fairgrounds by Saturday, July 29. On the pink form it will have the dates that I will need to have projects returned by to our Extension Office in Centennial by so that we can pack up and be ready to deliver to state fair.

ATTENTION 4-H PARENTS!

Now that it is getting closer to Fair season and the 4-H community is thriving with their community service projects, project meetings, club meetings and practices we wanted to provide you some helpful information on 4-H Parent Expectations.

Please click on the image to the right and take a moment to read. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at the 2023 Arapahoe County Fair!

Due to sanitation and risks to human health, no food or beverage for human consumption will be permitted inside the barn areas. 4-H families and participants are welcome to utilize the 4-H Livestock Sale Dinner tent to have meals.

Please remember to wash your hands regularly, especially when working with livestock.

Food Truck Update!

ATTENTION Livestock Families! There will be NO FOOD trucks available until 4 PM on both Thursday and Friday. Please plan to either go off fairgrounds site to get lunch or pack your lunches for those days.

Fair Livestock Setup Schedule

East Wing, Sunday, 7/23 starting at 9:00 AM

Pavilion, Monday, 7/24 starting at 8:00 AM

Tack-In, Monday, 7/24 from 4:00 to 8:30 PM

  • Just a reminder that ALL market livestock members should be reaching out to potential buyers for the auction. You should be making final connections with businesses and individuals who you know personally, and that may be interested in buying your animal at the auction. These connections need to be made prior to fair and not during the BBQ or the auction.

  • The buyers do not appreciate being bombarded by 4-H members they do not know, especially while they are eating! If you have made connections prior to the auction, it is appropriate to approach those buyers during the BBQ to make sure they know what you will be selling. However, the Sale Committee is strongly discouraging members from approaching unknown buyers during the BBQ.

  • If you need help reaching out to buyers please reach out to your club’s organizational leader for ideas. It is the responsibility of the 4-H members to invite buyers to the auction, so please encourage all potential buyers to register on the website.

All Poultry Families

  • Please bring your thank you cards for CORE and Western Conservation District (unsealed, addressed, and stamped) to receive your exhibitor cash.
  • Showmanship will begin at 11:00 AM, we have 21 exhibitors and one judge so please be patient.
  • You will still need to adhere to dress code requirements for showmanship. Bring lots of food, drinks, chairs, and things to keep you entertained. It will be a long day, but we will be working as quickly as we can! There will be no food available for purchase at the fairgrounds.
  • We expect awards to take place around 3:00 PM. You will need to be present to receive your ribbons and buckles. If you cannot be present for awards, we will be at fair all week and you can pick them up then.

Market Poultry Families

  • Please remember to have nice show clothes for your auction photo.
  • Market poultry members may begin arriving at the fairgrounds between 8:00-9:00 AM, to get their birds settled before weigh-in.
  • All market birds will be vet checked and swabbed by CSU before entry to the east wing.
  • Please bring all necessary items to keep your birds comfortable throughout the day. We will be providing cages, cups, and shavings for market chickens. Pens with mats and shavings will be provided for market turkeys.
  • We will be transporting all market birds to the processor immediately after the show. We would greatly appreciate it if we could use your kennels/cages to keep animals separate and secure during transport. Kennels and cages will be returned on auction night.

  • A great idea for a buyer’s gift this year would be a cooler since all auctioned poultry will be frozen and will need to remain as cold as possible throughout the night.

State Fair Livestock Update

The Colorado State Fair Livestock online entry portal is open. To access the entry portal, exhibitors should go to www.coloradostatefair.com and under the Competitions at the top, click on the Livestock drop down. This will take you to the website and then all you have to do is click on the picture for the show you are wanting to enter. There is a big green box that says ENTER HERE that will take you to the registration page. The page will walk you through the steps to enter. You should write down your password in case you need to go back in and update entries for any reason and to print a copy of your entry receipt.

Entries received for Market animals that did not complete the nomination process - mostly animals that did nomination forms but didn't submit DNA or retinals - will be rejected and no refunds will be issued.

All entries will be done online this year with the exception of Open & Youth Rabbits and you will have to submit paper forms with payment. The forms may be found on the Small Animal Page.

Also, exhibitors can enter Showmanship when they arrive on the fairgrounds. For more information, click on the image above to email Robyn Toft, Livestock Events Coordinator.
