"Springtime is the time of plans and projects"

Leo Tolstoy Anna Karenina

What a glorious time to celebrate Spring and all of its wonders! The next month holds so many exciting adventures and plans for WWC. Get ready to seize the day and enjoy so many events to come! This begins with our annual Fashion Show on April 10th. This will be an occasion to wear your favorite hats or fascinators!

Don’t be afraid to express yourself!

Speaking of expressing yourself, the centerpieces, done by Linda Veraldi, were the talk of the luncheon. They were so colorful and perfect for the arrival of Spring.

D's Bottle Shop did an amazing job with a presentation on French wines. When we speak of wine, Terroir is one of the most basic terms. It is also what determines everything that happens to influence the growing of the grapes. It is important to understand how to grow the grapes and all the factors which determine that growth season. We had a lovely time toasting several different areas of France.

Nominations have been proposed for our 2024-25 WWC Executive Board

1st Vice President for Executive Board: Tamara Porter

2nd Co-Vice Presidents: Mary Beth Cristinziano and Michelle Divina.

We will vote on nominations at the April meeting. If there are board positions in which you are interested to serve, please let us know. We are always preparing for future board positions.

Our Spring Bus Trip is on April 17 to Shelton Vinyards for lunch and wine tasting. There are still a few spots left , so please reserve yours today.

Without each of you, all the events and activities would never be possible. We are so grateful for each of you!

With 51 new members and counting we are excited about what our future holds. Please join us at the St. Ives Clubhouse on April 23 for the All Member Appreciation. It will be a time for existing members and our Board to recognize our new members. Mark your calendars for 4:30-7:30. Please respond if you are able to attend. We look forward to seeing each of you there.

Deidri Ottesen, who prepares our Directory each year needs your help. The Directory would not be possible without your participation. We need people to step up for this amazing committee. New member, this is a great way to get involved. Existing members you realize how invaluable this resource is to each of us. Please consider giving time to this committee. This connects us all! Your service would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Enjoy the April buds, flowers and warm days ahead.

We look forward to seeing all of your hats at the Fashion Show.

Spring Fling Bus Trip to Two Vineyards

Deidri Ottesen & Angela Little

2nd VPs

Spring Fling Bus Trip

to 2 Vineyards

Wednesday, April 17

(8am - 7:30pm)

Please join us April 17th on a fun-filled bus trip to the beautiful Yadkin Valley wine country! We will first visit Shelton Vineyards for a tour, tasting and lunch at the vineyard’s restaurant, Harvest Grill. Shelton Vineyard has been in business for 20 years and is one of the largest vineyards in NC. They have won numerous awards for their Cabernets, Chardonnays, Riesling, Claret, Malbec, Verdot, Port, Rose, and Sauvignon Blanc. Included with your trip is lunch and 3 one ounce tastings at Shelton Vineyards.

After a delicious lunch, we will hop back on the bus for a 30 minute ride over to a new vineyard in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Castello Barone. The owners, Scott and Elizabeth Barone will tell us how they made their dream a reality and what it took to start a vineyard from scratch. They will give us a tour of their operation and offer us a tasting of their wines. You may purchase a partial tasting of 4 one ounce pours of your choice for $12 or a full tasting of 7 one ounce pours of all of their wines (except sparkling) for $21.

This will be a full day of playing games on the bus, indulging in a delicious lunch and sampling some tasty wines. The total cost for this much fun is $50 pp. This includes the bus trip and lunch with 3 one ounce tastings at Shelton Vineyards. Not included in this price is the tasting at Castello Barone. You will pay for that optional tasting at the winery.

The bus will leave Wakefield Country Club at 8:30am sharp on Wednesday, April 17th and will return around 7:30pm that evening. The bus only has room for 52 ladies so it’s important to register and pay soon. If there are still some seats available on April 1st, we will open the registration up to guests for $55pp. The registration link is below.

Contact Deidri Ottesen or Angela Little if you have any questions. We look forward to sharing a fun day with you!
